Cormack was sold to Nottingham Forest iirc
One of my early Hero's superb player and he was the player that Liverpool created the mid-field number 5 position, later taken up by Ray Kennedy, leading to a period of dominance in English football by the team in red.

One of several Scandinavian players imported in the 1960s ( danish)

Rangers had a swede called Orjan Persson IIRC

HIBS had a Centre Half John Madsen ( danish)
I do believe if memory serves me that Greenock Morton were the first club to bring over the Scandinavians to Scotland, and some very good players came over to play. John Madsen was a great centre half for Hibs, well remember on frosty freezing hard pitch he would play in base-ball boots.

Morton were early in having Scandinavian players but I think Dundee United were first with top level players. I think they sold Persson to Rangers

    You're right about Persson.

I think Rangers had Kai Johansen before him, though. He had been at Morton.

A cup final winner from him wasn't it ?

I thought United's best was Finn Dossing. I remember they took four off us at Easter Road and we were lucky it was only four.

We had two Norwegians in the 78/79 season - Isak Refvik and Sven Mathieson. For some reason they only played about 10 games between them before they went back to Norway. Cannot remember why they stayed for such a short time, probably some contractual problem.

It was a visa/work permit problem which the Scottish Office would do nothing about.

Home office wouldn't give them work permits. If I remember correctly the SFA didn't help Hibs with the permits application. Surprisingly (not) again if I remember the Hun managed to get one for someone soon after, maybe Robert Pritz?

Thanks for that, they went back to their respective clubs. Which was a pity as they were a couple of good players.

Morton must have had close to 20 Danish players in a few years in the 60's & as you say, others followed suit. In addition to Madsen & Johansen they had a couple of Sorensens, I think the keeper Erik ( who may have been the 1st import) also ended up in Govan, a couple of Nielsens ( Fleming?) & a Jensen or 2, possibly Bjorn. They also had Per Bartram who went to Palace but they may have been in 3rd Division South at that time. Hal Stewart was definitely the initiator of the Danish influx.

Hearts had Rene Moller and Roald Jensen both now sadly passed away

Roald Jensen was held in that high esteem in Norway that his countrymen built a statue in his honour

    45 YEARS AGO TODAY

    18/10/1975 Scottish League Premier Division

    Celtic 0 v 2 Hibernian

    Bremner 26
    Harper 76

    MATCH ABANDONED

Heavy fog descended over Parkhead with only 5 minutes to go

Referee RH Davidson ( Airdrie) had no qualms in cancelling the game immediately

10 minutes later the coast was clear

The replay ended in a 1-1 draw

My abiding memory is of an unknown Hibby giving the V sign to the TV Cameras

Think it was one of Blackley Harper or Bremner ?

Des Bremner gave HIBS the lead with a powerful header from a John Brownlie free kick after 26 minutes Joe Harper increased HIBS’ lead in the second half when he hit a shot off Peter Latchford’s legs and followed up to bury the rebound into the net

That was the man Brog, had forgot his name, Hal Stewart the man who brought the Scandinavians to Morton & Scotland and began a long list of pretty good players in Scotland.

You missed the bit about the greatest fans in the world invading the pitch in an attempt to get the match abandoned, which added on time at the end of game, which meant it could have been done and dusted.

    Partick Thistle 0 v 3 Hibernian

    O’Connor 2
    Paatelainen

Bobby Williamson’s HIBS make it four wins on the bounce and they would make it five thanks to Grant Brebner’s solo strike a week later at Pittodrie

Young striker Garry O’Connor staked a claim for a Scotland return when towards the end of a forgettable first half he controlled a searching pass from Zambernardi 30 yards from goal turned smartly and thundered a right footed shot high into the corner of the Thistle net

His second goal arrived two minutes from the end when he knocked the ball over the head of his marker before volleying home

HIBS scored their second when Mixu Paatelainen barged his way through a crowd of defenders to get on the end of a Craig James cross with nine minutes remaining

Searching for his hat-trick O’Connor found time in the dying minutes to send a fizzer past the post following that up with a stinging drive that hit the post

    Motherwell 1 v 1 Hibernian

    Harper

Jocky Scott fresh from his 2-1 home win over the mighty Rangers took his troops to Fir Park to face Motherwell

In form striker Kevin Harper opened the scoring but things went pear shaped when Jim Leighton was sent off for the only time in his career when he handled the ball outside the box

HIBS had no keeper on the bench so Andy Millen went in goal HIBS tried to protect their vulnerable goalkeeper as best they could and held out until the 75th minute when Shaun McSkimming grabbed an equaliser

    19/10/1991 Scottish League Premier Division

    Hibernian 0 v 0 Motherwell

A week before the Skol Cup Final versus Dunfermline and this game was supposed to be shooting practice for Messrs Wright McGinlay and Weir

Sometimes things never go to plan being a Hibby

Only 7141 bothered to turn up One week later they were closing the turnstiles at Hampden and putting up the sold out signs

    19/10/1985 Scottish League Premier Division

    Rangers 1 v 2 Hibernian

    Munro og
    Harris

One week before the Skol Cup Final versus Aberdeen and Rangers were bemoaning their luck and the fine goalkeeping of Alan Rough

A Stuart Munro own goal put us ahead on 38 minutes Substitute Colin ‘Bomber’ Harris increased our lead on 85 minutes The Referee then gave Rangers their obligatory penalty and Davie Cooper duly obliged from the spot

19/10/1977 Anglo Scottish Cup Semi Final Leg 1

    Hibernian 1 v 1 Bristol City

    Duncan

Bristol City probably one of the dirtiest teams ever to visit Easter Road

The game developed into a farce due to the number of fouls being committed with Norman Hunter and Peter Cormack being sent off for Bristol City.

Ally MacLeod had a late penalty saved by ex Leeds United goalkeeper John Shaw

    McArthur was the goalie

If you google the game and go into the Celtic Wiki there is a newspaper match report goalscorers defo Bremner and Harper

As Kato said there was an earlier pitch invasion from the jungle and the match had to be restarted wasting valuable minutes and the game should have been done and dusted

Nothing lucky about Hibs avoiding relegation that year due to relegation being scrapped. At the end of the season Hibs WERE NOT in the relegation position. We were push that season but Hibs have NEVER been saved from relegation by league reconstruction.

    Agree!

Was speaking from the point of view of that point in time and going 5 months without a win under Lexo - painful stuff

I think we beat Clyde in the Cup ??

It was not my intention to imply we were anywhere near the wooden spoon

    We finished second bottom

Hibs McArthur Brownlie Schaedler Stanton Barry Blackley MacLeod Bremner Harper Munro and Duncan

    Subs Smith Spalding

    Att 33000
It was John Blackley with the V sign. Was at game and 10 mins after it was abandoned the fog lifted. I have been at Easter Road a game against Motherwell where the referee played more than 10 mins in fog which was much worse than the fog at Parkhead that day. My father who was a referee was disgusted at the way Davidson handled the situation and also the way the Scottish League handled it.

How did that work in a Celtc-Hibs scenario?

Seemed to be at the time that the ‘establishment ‘ had an Old Firm bias and they would use every trick in the book to make sure teams from the East would not win i.e. Mickey Edwards getting suspended for two months Celtic bringing fixtures forward to let key players serve suspensions, not ok for Refvik and Mathieson to play in Scotland but ok for Robert Prytz. There was no way Celtic were winning that match just Sloops way of saying FU to the SFA

Bobby Davidson sent John McNamee off in a Cup Semi Final at Hampden versus Celtic
Big John was adamant he never touched the guy
    West coast bias

All of the above is of course imho

Yes it was a well known at the time he also did not like East of Scotland teams especially us. My father heard many stories about him amongst the referee fraternity. It was amazing in these days the number of refs were areas around Glasgow. Bothwell Rutherglen Bishopbriggs etc. Bob Valentine was listed as Dundee although he lived in Broughty Ferry.
    Just saying like!!!
