    You have a PM.
Matty, you are a gent and a scholar. How could I forget Dallas Crutcher Long in the shot putt?

Very well-put points about four-dimensional systems in relation to the universe and liked your interpretation of how Carthage evolved through the Punic Wars.

Did you know that you can sing this to the tune of Imagine.

    John Lennon was a visionary.
When you say sing to the original, what style do you mean?

I have tried country, rare dub, Motownish and eighties classic hip-hop.

I ruled out the original style and am considering free-form jazz with a bit of skat but because I am in the garden I am sensing the neighbours starting to be restless.

Lennon has a lot of achievements to his name but he clearly never ‘imagined’ how to recreate his song in a different style in a Jedburgh garden!

    Bollocks. I had Randy Matson.

But then I also answered a question in Latin History about the Punic Wars with the word "Phallus".

For some of us the battles between Dallas Crutcher Long and Randy Matson exemplified sport as it was intended to be.

Two finely-honed athletes, muscular but trim, glistening in sweat, tight singlet and shorts. Yep.

‘’Phallic” was maybe just a Freudian slip.

See the pet peeves thread. It has to be on a veeeeeeery sloooow pianooooo, and absolutely no trace of any tune in the vocals.

I’m up to cacomistle singing the Oxford Concise dictionary.

Helpful. I think I need to find some elfin girl with a gentle and earnest voice.

If I can factor in a Christmas angle and pitch it to John Lewis or preferably Marks, then I am quids in.

If that happens I will definitely pick up the shirt sponsorship for whoever comes after Jack Ross and John Potter on the coaching bench. We are all Hibs.

Thank you for clearing that up.

Loathe as I am to bring this thread back to Trump, I've just watched some of his interview with Jonathan Swan, which was broadcast on HBO last night. The man is beyond parody.

The bit about Coronavirus in the US is startling; he brings out paper charts to show Swan and persuade him on his argument. Basically, his argument is that the relevant figure is "deaths per number of confirmed cases" rather than "deaths per head of population". He then refers to not getting enough credit for the US doing more testing than any other country. He's so out of his depth that he'd almost engender sympathy if the situation wasn't so serious and he wasn't such a ****.

I understand why people would be suspicious that Trump may try to hold onto power if he loses the election, but the man I see is simply not capable of doing so.

The people around him would be more capable of holding onto power though. All they need is a willing President. Not saying it’s doable but it def needs guarded against.

    Bonkers.

Jonathan Swan seems to get away with more piercing questions than other interviewers. Despite the hostile tone Trump seems to kinda like him. Great guy, doing a fantastic job. But Its still FAKE NEWS people!! Particularly women or non white press people tend to get shouted down for asking similar questions. You have to wonder why Trump agrees to be interviewed by him when he is so clearly intellectually inferior.

Obviously # of deaths per head of population is a different and more meaningful statistic than # of deaths per cases when forming a view on how effective any countrys response to CV is. But do Trump voters appreciate that? Do they even care? Does Trump realise what he’s saying doesn’t really stand up but is just ploughing through anyway, either lost in a narcissistic dream state or just hoping his core support don’t notice or don’t care?

I'm curious (not being smartarsed), you've said you have no scientific evidence, what drives your beliefs that global warming/climate change aren't happening?

Trump is, in every possible way you can think of, an idiot.

That he's somehow been bankrolled into the position he is, makes him nothing more than a useful idiot for those that placed him there.

It's almost unthinkable that someone that stupid, that ignorant, and that much of an idiot, could wind up as President of the USA, but here we are.

I don't have sympathy for him, he's a racist, a misogynist, a bully, and a liar (on top of being an idiot).

He doesn't appear to have a shred of decency about him, either. Just bluster and aggression.
