Horrendous amount of jobs being lost, just the tip of the iceberg. Feel for the younger generation trying to make a decent life for themselves. Sad sad times.

829 new cases and 176 new deaths across the UK since yesterday.
I don't think it's just Leicester that needs locked down.

Does anyone on here, independance supporter or unionist agree with Johnsons comments?
I find it crazy that it would be anything but normal for a country to want to protect its occupants
England in UK terms is terrible right now so why is it appalling?

I would close the border with immediate effect..England is a shambles at the moment and the last thing we need is thousands of them pitching up here for there summer holidays..

Have never voted for her but it has to be said that way she dealt with that is way, way more mature than all the wee laddies trying to create headlines have done.

BoJo would look a hell of a lot worse than he does already if the other UK nations closed the borders to England due to being so far ahead of his England.
He’ll never agree to it.

Although the number of cases does look big, it's actually not that much higher than Scotland when you consider the number of tests being carried out in Scotland compared with the UK as a whole.
Scotland carried out just over 4,000 tests yesterday, the UK's total number was just over 226,000.

Every country I can think of closes and controls its borders when an emergency situation arises in order to protect it population. That's just standard.
Every country I can think of develops an economic policy that tries to benefit the citizens of the country.
Every country I can think of develops a strategy to increase or decrease migration for the overall benefit of the country.
Every country I can think of enters into treaties and supports or opposes countries or causes in line with its democratic traditions.
Scotland does none of these things and chooses English people to do these for them so I can quite understand Boris Johnson's comments.
From his point of view it is "appalling" that Scotland is considering (however remotely) border controls as again from his point of view his power is being challenged as that's a decision English people should always make utterly without question.
Rest assured if it was the other way around there would be tanks, razer wire and barricades by the weekend without any meaningful discussion of that there is no question.

There will be plenty areas in England at similar levels to areas in Scotland and who knows how that will fluctuate going forward from place to place. It would seem to make more sense just to lock down individual areas as required (as localised as possible) while allowing the rest of the UK to open up and enjoy freedom of movement within.
The economy has been hit enough we don't need to complicate things with our #1 tourist industry customer.Mon the Hibs.

I knew Scotland's testing was lagging behind per capita but that's a big difference and last time I checked the UK was nowhere near 200k.Mon the Hibs.

Wales and Scotland occupy the top spots for the virus per 100k of population.

Both 'sides' have tried to paint this as an economy v health argument but the two are not mutually exclusive. Despite Johnsons ramblings otherwise another decade of austerity seems inevitable. Someone who was 16 at the time of the 2008 crash could well reach 40 having lived much of their adult life in such circumstances.

It seems the Guardian are only including figures for pillar 1 in England.
Overall, including pillar 2, the English infection rate is running just over a third higher than in Scotland per million and deaths more than 50% higher.
