Interesting because previously you have been tired of people talking about indefinite lockdown/distancing restrictions but to fully eradicate the virus as Professor Hennington suggests we should in the article you shared, we would probably have to introduce some strict lockdown/distancing measures for an indefinite period of time.

The article cites China and New Zealand as example countries who are striving to eradicate the virus. Both of these countries had stricter lockdown/distancing measures than here which were only lifted once numbers of infections were down to very low levels. As Professor Pennington offers does not offer an alternative method of eradication and in the absence of a viable vaccine, one can surmise from the article that he believes we should follow their lead.

If China and New Zealand are striving to be free of it, we should be too.

Maybe my comprehension of the article is wrong and that’s not what he is suggesting and there is another method of eradication which you are aware of which means we no longer need to socially distance anymore?

No doubt in my mind England care home deaths being underplayed. Excess deaths figure seem to represent this as do 2000+ per cent increase in pneumonia deaths in comparison with last year. Probably political decision to make them look better than they are plus can make Scotland look worse than they are in comparison so Tory win win.

I’ve seen you quote the 2,000% increase in pneumonia deaths a few times but Ive not seen that quoted anywhere in the excess deaths analysis that I’ve read...do you have a link / source for that number?

I've never been much of a McDonald's fan (perhaps a couple of cheeseburgers to help sort out a hangover in my younger days) so maybe I'm not best placed to comment, but it strikes me as remarkable what folk are prioritising as lockdown measures are eased:

With so many conflicting opinions expressed by commentators, I'm continually confused by whether Sweden's strategy can be held up as the example we should all have followed or whether it's been a disastrous mistake.

However, I note today that the epidemiologist who was effectively running the country has admitted they didn't impose a strict enough lockdown and that Sweden actually has the world's highest per-capita death rate:

To that end I try not to make it “about me” (who really cares!) and I much prefer to post articles from people who are far, far more qualified than me but admittedly are more aligned with my thinking.
