To be fair, though, when the **** first hit the fan, people were genuinely concerned that they might not have the income to cover their mortgage. In hindsight, they might see things differently, but I don't think they can be blamed for accepting the help that was being offered.
I would agree in the whole but I work in quite a niche market, means I can see just how much people have to play with, lots of them were purely taking it as it was there, no concerns over money in any way

    Ahh thought as much.

People are nothing but predictable. Despite the option pretty much always being there as soon as it’s plastered all over the news they get the wee idea in their head and jump on the phone to the bank.

I’m sure though that lots are genuinely very welcome of the breathing room.

Banks also starting to ramp up their estimates on bad loans, just the tip of the iceberg on that front as well I’d expect.

So a mega whammy for the banks, just when they thought margins were going to fatten up and PPI finally in the rear view...up this pops hammering their interest margin and whacking huge losses onto their loans books across all of their lending types.

Not that anyone will be shedding a tear for them and that’s what their capital buffers are for but ultimately sick banks are rarely good for the economy. Married with governments loaded with huge new debt piles the impact of these few weeks and months could be felt for a very long time indeed.
I thought the government ( well the taxpayer inevitably) were guaranteeing 80% of the loans with the bank the balance and in cases of small business loans from 2k to 50k the whole 100%? I’ll not cry too much for the banks or big business.

It seems that they have contacts in high places.
    What does your wife do?

They certainly are in our town...appointment only right enough.

I regularly check Flight Radar 24 as I'm a bit of a plane geek. There are currently only 2 flights over Scottish airspace: a Loganair flight from Edinburgh to East Midlands and a military flight that departed from Brize Norton and must be on a manoeuvre of some sort as it is on a strange route over the south west of Scotland near to Prestwick. There's only a dozen flights over the entirity of the UK, 2 of which are military planes and 2 are privately registered aircraft. The whole of Europe is pretty dead in the skies with only 3 planes over Spain and Portugal. Only Germany looks relatively busy and even then it's nothing compared to usual.

They're classed as an essential service so they are allowed to remain open.

Some of them have still closed though.

In fairness to the guy who was my relationship manager (bank reshuffle at the end of March) he took exception to some of what his clients were proposing to do (ie taking the piss) so he wasn't exactly going to put the most positive case forward to credit.

The tweet of a man who knows Sturgeon has completely outshone the UK govt, in terms of leadership at the very least, during this pandemic.

I wouldn't be so sure. One of my (French) mates is an educator in a home for the mentally handicapped. He hasn't had so much as a paper mask from the state. His wife's a mobile nurse (or whatever you call them) - same story.
Is it as bad as the UK over there, I had the impression they were much better equipped and organised?

I am not a fan of Sturgeon or the SNP, however she has been a strong leader during this crisis and went up greatly in my estimation. I am sick of so called journalists etc sitting on keyboards snipinig.

Much the same from what I can see. I think both countries made mistakes and we're caught on the hop.

Tragic, looks like the infection and mortality rates are very similar too.

I'm not sure suggesting you might want to cover your face in confined spaces, however many weeks after it was first discussed, is great leadership.

Timing though. Like that time Boris covered his face by hiding.

I don't support her, have no reason to do so, but as an avid observer of the news from both sides of the border the leadership she provides is light years ahead of the haphazard reactive equivalent in England.

I didn't say you said it, but seeing as you raised it, "completely outshone the UK govt, in terms of leadership at least" suggests to me that you think Sturgeon has shown great leadership.

I know it's a low bar versus the UK Government but, if you don't think that, what did you mean?

I think it might be that the SAGE advice changed last week. This would then have been discussed within the resilience group, and the slight change made.

Sturgeon and Leitch want to get on the same page. He was telling us last week that wearing masks was pointless.
