I've not listened to any of it, but it sounds like there's a shift of tact announced. Not sure how you can draw your conclusions.

My work won't be the only one who were taking government steer and that announcement will mean I work from home now.
    Mon the Hibs.

Not everyone can work from home though.
Boris is telling us not to go to pubs, clubs or even work but not willing to make it policy because the gov will have to put their hand in the pocket and pay us to stay home.
Same reason we aren’t testing enough to keep the official figures down and try keep the London exchange up.

Where are you seeing that? I’ve had an email saying there will be discussions tomorrow. Nothing more concrete than that.

    Correct.

Its grim. I'm concerned for the next generations who're going to live through the worst effects of acute global slowdown with borders likely to be put up around the world for quite some time. Who knows what the future holds.
Or the next generations might just learn from our mistakes and build a more resiliant economy.

Idris Elba tests positive without any symptoms. How does that work? Nobody is allowed to be tested - including doctors and nurses who are dealing with this - unless they’re so ill they end up in hospital yet a celebrity with no symptoms has been. What a ****ing joke.

That’s how I saw it. As I’m a civil servant I’m going to hazard a guess that means I’ll be home working soon as well.

If he has had contact with a confirmed case then he would get tested I think.

I’ve no doubt it will happen. I sent someone from my team home today to work from home (she’s diabetic and cares for her husband at home), but I’m expecting most to follow suit. There’s nothing I can’t do from home anyway.

I’ve got a meeting first thing tomorrow, but wouldn’t be surprised to go home afterwards.

One of my workmates has just been told by his son (who's a gendarme) that tonight Macron is going to announce a lock down of 45 days- ie. everyone confined to home unless absolutely necessary.
All unnecessary trips banned. OK to go to buy food, go to work (where home working is impossible) or go for healthcare but that's it.

Anyone caught outside with no good reason will be fined/punished.

All for an initial 2 week period.

Cool mate, I thought it would have been across the board and we got told half five tonight so I again I assumed it coincides with the news from five the night, seemed I got that wrong! Take it easy regardless!

Didn't hear it all but from excerpts sounds pretty much like we're moving slowly towards what everyone else in the world is already doing. No reason that I could see why we shouldn't have done it a week or two ago.

Yes, think you and Calum are right. They were testing contacts to start with but they’ve stopped.

Is Idris Elba in the UK just now?

Johnson has a vested interest in the insurance industry and his brexit mastermind pal Aaron banks, certainly explains his cowardly stance earlier.

I was reading earlier that because there is no 'end game' to the plan of social distancing, in the sense that whilst you can lower the numbers infected but realistically can't get that to zero, then we could be in the current situation for 18 months to 2 years. Basically as soon as restrictions are lifted then the virus starts to spread again as it is doing currently.

That's a frightening thought in many ways. Months of isolation isn't good for mental health. Many of us will be alive but how many will still have jobs if things reach the extreme end of the timescale? How do you help children catch up their education when the schools inevitably close? How many sports club and social groups will go out of existence?

It's going to be interesting to see how societies and communities react to what is coming. A hell of a lot of people are going to need a lot of support to recover from this. The mentality of the British public over the last few years doesn't fill me with hope that it will happen.
