    Isolation buying, anybody?
I'm getting up early doors tomorrow to do just that.
I don't want to but the panic buying has started locally in my area.
Planning to do our usual weekly shop tomorrow. I hate going to the supermarket at the best of times.

All the concerns raised there are fair enough. Every other country's government will be led by expert advice but we seem to be on a very different path. Our government(s) need to explain why

My dad, his wife, daughter, son in law and two friends have now given up coming here in May from the US.
I'm edging on relieved but selfishly I'm gutted missing out my father. **** this virus.

UK construction. A tower block goes up in flames.

I don't think we have any right to be critical of another country.
This either isn't a serious post, or you don't know what you're talking about.

Yes. Current old-and-vulnerable to be sacrificed early so that the country will recover to a relatively strong economic position internationally more quickly than it otherwise would.

Experiment being dressed up as 'following the science'.

Likewise. I'm back in Edinburgh about 4 and will do my weekly shop tonight. I normally do it on a Friday so I daresay I've missed the boat a bit.

I'm probably pretty well prepared as I'm terrible for picking up a tin of this or that every time I'm in the shop because it's handy to have if the bairn is being fussy. There's probably 2 weeks worth of tins because of that. Add to that she love lentils and pasta so I have loads of them as well.

I could probably make a fortune in the toilet roll and soap black market. My work sell toilet rolls in a 40 pack and soap in a 12 pack and I alway pick them up when I need them because we get them at cost so it's a no brainer. I picked up one of each a couple of weeks back because I needed them so I'm covered for that.

The worry with panic buying is that it is probably an inadvertent 'I'm alright Jack' action. It's understandable people are stocking up for themselves 'just in case' but an elderly person with little support living week to week on their pension may not have that ability. If they go to the shops during the week and young, healthy people have cleared the shelves of everything is that not just another way of putting them at heightened risk?

I'm no expert but I'm uneasy with the fact our experts seems to be contradicting most other experts

I'm also uneasy with the fact they are basically saying folk need to die while we wait for a certain amount to be infected

Its pretty weird here at the moment. Pubs and restaurants being told to make their own decisions re-closure even though theres a ban on groups of 100 or more indoors. In the village people want to support their local places but are also trying to do social distancing. I popped into the pub last night & the place was busy with everyone trying to stay a meter apart!? Already one of the local cafe's has shut down for two weeks minimum (and they are generally jammed with customers every day). I've heard rumours the civil defence are being brought in from Monday, could be bull**** but that was from someone who is in civil defense. I'm just glad I dont have kids as with the schools being closed & elderley being at risk so man parents at their wits end trying to arrange child care & keep a job going.

Asda in leith was the same last night. I only popped in for some bread while my son was at his swimming lesson but there was no bread to be found along with plenty other empty shelves.

I woke up feeling terrible this morning, dry cough, head swimming, convinced myself I have the virus but I've realised I've got a hangover.

There have been multiple statements saying there are no shortages but evidently there are, or at least there are issues in the supply chain. My local Asda has had no toilet roll for over a week and no dried pasta for about 5 days.

It's a vicious cycle because every day there is an empty shelf leads to more panic buying as and when food becomes available which leads to additional shortages and it keeps repeating. If others stores have to start following Tescos lead and ration certain products then I support them doing it. Loading up with 10 soaps and 5 loaves of bread might make some feel secure but it's creating a situation that denies others.

    Got this text last night:

    ;
To protect patients from Corona virus we are moving to telephone consulting. Please don't attend the surgery.

So that's the doctors shutting down. Has caused panic mode here and everyone on Facebook freaking out about it. Was made even worse when some popped up saying the Royal is crawling with it and to expect an announcement soon that its in lock down. No idea if its true or not but not good if it is.

I visited my GP 5 weeks ago and there were already signs saying if you suspect you may have Covid-19 to go home and phone 111.

I've just ordered repeat prescriptions even though I have 3 weeks supply because I am on holiday the end of next week for a week. (staying in Scotland so should be OK and the company I booked through have emailed to keep me up to date)

The reason for this is that there are still some people who ignore all the advice that is plastered everywhere and turn up in the surgery with symptoms. It is to protect staff and to avoid having to fully close the surgery and deep clean it

Wow. Viewing this post and my potential reply with Hibbyradge's earlier point about people on social media in mind, I'm going to drop this discussion.

That's one of those things that seems nice for a few minutes but would have you launching yourself over the balcony after 14 days of self quarantine.

So, my boy's school has closed until after Easter, my wife (software developer) has been told to work from home for the foreseeable future but I'm still expected to transport hundreds of coughing, sneezing and sweating passengers from A to B in a pressurised tin can with no protection other than rubber gloves and hand sanitizer. It's pretty much guaranteed that I'll get this (if I haven't already) and pass it on to my family. Rumour has it that airlines will be grounded soon, the minute that happens I'm off in the caravan to the Baltic to sit this thing out. If we're going to be quarantined then at least in a place with a view and decent fresh air.

Looking at the figures which I know is only rough, apart from Italy ourselves and quite a few other countries have a far far less percentage death rate. It maybe now done to how the vulnerable are protected either by themselves or family friends.

IMO the amount of people that will catch it will be high I think the amount of deaths will not rise as much as seen in Italy.
