I prefer to keep physical attributes out of politics, but she looks like her head was designed by the same people as Wallace and Gromit.
    So what?

Isn't that what people said about Ed Milliband?

May the best looking politician win.

Making caricatures of politicians is a long established tradition, cartoonists do it every day. Impressionists seize on nuances of speech and accents.

It's part of the game surely?

Unfortunately personal image matters in politics. Miliband came across as a wishy washy posh boy, if he was Labour leader now you could imagine him as Boris Johnson's 'fag' at Eaton ( I know Miliband didnt go to Eaton )

Johnson, like it or not, has that bumbling personable outward veneer which makes him appear on the surface as likeable to the general public. As somebody who knows him personally said 'the people who dont like Boris Johnson are the ones who have actually met him' .... Thats how he has managed to somehow get even the BBC and a load of supposedly 'serious' political reporters all over the MSM to refer to him as 'Boris' ... a state of affairs for which they should be thoroughly embarrassed.

As for Swinson. She is young and not bad looking which is a good starting point for any politician. But the more you see and hear her the less that makes a difference. Her attempt to dilute her Scottish accent and flatten her vowels to a pancake wont go down well with a Scottish audience, but you also get the impression that like Johnson her own ambitions for herself are front and centre ... I watched her walk out at the cenotaph and looking at her ( to my mind ) well rehearsed solemnity all I could imagine her thinking was 'made it, good for me' ... The way she ran onto the stage at the Lib Dem manifesto launch just looked utterly naff.

Not just Jo Swinson, but Christine Jardine lost it big time.

"Will you put Jeremy Corbyn in Number 10?"

Lib Dem's Christine Jardine challenges SNP's Stewart Hosie a number of times to reveal if SNP would join coalition government with Labour

    Latest #BBCQT reaction: https://t.co/xH8XKFUArJ https://t.co/SiKVAbAVYQ

Christine Jardine has taken No.1 spot in my "Most enjoyable SNP Gain" list.

Hosie could've harpooned her though on the alternative (Boris) instead of trying to deflect..

I thought she perfomed really badly in tonight's debate. From the moment the lady in the audience asked her about her voting record in the coalition government she was on the back foot. She was given a kicking and looked very uncomfortable. Certainly the poorest performance of the four leaders for me.

I was laughing at first when she started to tank but by the end I really felt bad for her and was hoping it would end. I bet she puked in the bathroom afterwards. It was a total car crash.

It was a car crash and it will resonate with voters. It certainly won't help the Lib Dem vote.

She has been a complete disaster from the beginning. Jo for PM 😆, pressing the button 😆 voting record 😆 poor in interviews 😆 poor in debates 😆. Every time she is on TV it proves all those who thought she was getting stick just for being a woman were completely wrong. She is getting stick for being a very poor leader

She looked totally out of her depth. Looked a novice compared to Sturgeon and Corbyn came across way better than her.

Aye, her gender is irrelevant to all but the sexist idiots in society who resent women being in any prominent positions of any kind. She is just a poor performer under questioning; Sturgeon, on the other hand, performed best of all tonight, in my opinion. It can't be easy to go on live television and face the public, but it goes with the job, and I'm afraid Swinson seems to fold under scrutiny.

Is it true that the @LibDems are considering legal action against the #BBC for allowing her to take part in last night's #BBCQTDebate ?

To her credit, she did hold her hands up and apoligise for the austerity measures she voted for in coalition. Admitting they get things wrong isn't always the way politicians operate, but she now has a credibility problem when she describes the Lib Dems as a progressive force, as her record in government will follow her around. Luckily for her, a lot of Remain voters will support the Lib Dems on Brexit at this election.

I can’t stand the Lib Dem’s full stop. With the Tories you know what you’re getting, Labour similarly and obviously the same with the SNP. The Lib Dem’s seem to be complete opportunists. Watching them squirm on the subject of tuition fees is painful. They obviously support free tuition fees, but after the last time they campaigned on it then dropped it as part of the coalition deal they know it would be suicidal to have it in their manifesto again. They also seem to have some of the most loathsome politicians in Scotland, people like Carmichael and Alex Cole Hamilton wouldn’t get my vote in a million years.

I have to admit my surprise.

A thread about Jo Swinson. More than 400 posts. Yet radio silence on today’s story.

Today she is a leading news story because Lord Pentland at the Court of Session ordered the Royal Mail to stop delivering a SNP leaflet in her constituency as it was false in substance, materially inaccurate and defamatory. Oh, and ordered the SNP to pay her legal costs.

My favourite bit was the SNP’s QC saying the leaflet contained no ‘substantial mistruth’ or ‘substantial falseness’.

So maybe just normal, everyday ‘mistruth’ and ‘falseness’. Just the common or garden variety.

I suppose it begs the question about the threshold between ‘mistruth’, ‘falseness’ and ‘utter, downright lies’.

It’s a very good point and it should be highlighted, but it doesn’t change the fact that Swinson is deeply unpopular.

If she is, then maybe we should consider whether defamatory and false propaganda plays a part in that?

Good luck with that as grass roots members of every party will all make the same claims. A quick look on platforms like Twitter will confirm that. I would say there was a lot of positivity around Swinson early in the campaign, but as she’s come under scrutiny she’s been found wanting. The Lib Dem’s won’t make any progress until they elect a leader that wasn’t involved in the coalition with the Tories.

There is maybe a difference between the headless chicken farm that is Twitter, and an established political party in government publishing official election material though, eh?
