Cross purposes? I was saying that any MP or MSP will use their background to take on consultancy roles when they leave. She or a he can’t possibly do that while an elected meneber. Although actually I think MPs can and do, maybe MSPs too. It has to be declared and dropped if one becomes a minister?
A few interesting inputs, I didn't realise the speaker was such a big fitbaw fan.

There should be a rule against a sitting mp changing seat.

Apparently Boris Johnson is ditching Uxbridge and South Ruislip (majority of 5,034) and scarpering off to stand in Rutland & Melton (majority of 23,104).

Not sure he has to worry. Labour have put a far-right Corbanysta into the seat which is pretty centrist.

The tories rambling on about sorting out public services like education, policing, health services (which they're going to flog off anyway), fire services.... etc

They've had nearly 10 years to sort them out and have absolutely decimated them instead.

    #BritainDeservesBetter indeed.

Never really liked Hugh Grant very much. But he's gone up in my estimations here.

Ray Martin-Wells, Hartlepool Tory Party Chairman:

“I think if we had a clear run at it we’d have a strong chance – Boris is a straight-talker which goes down very well in Hartlepool"

Yes he is, if your definition of talking straight is lying.

I see Ruth Davidson is giving Stephen Kerr (Stirling tory MP) her full endorsement. Never mind that she wouldn't have the right to get married had he got his way on the issue.

Why would it go down well in Hartlepool? I thought I had more in common with a docker down there than I had with a crofter on Lewis?

Fauxrage claiming he was twice offered a peerage to stop him getting in the government's way. Things warming up nicely in the ****-on-**** action.

It does seem to be that there are a multitude of rats leaving the sinking Tory ship.

Labour mp who alleged the assault should have waited until it was too late for them to change candidate.

It's a bit weird that he released a statement earlier today about standing for re-election and then 6 hours latter he releases another one to say he will stand down, I wonder if he was giving a slight (strong) push to go..

Peronally I'm disappointed, that was the SNP Gain I was most looking forward to toasting.

Lots of MPs standing down from Labour and the Tories. Interestingly, a disproportionate number of women - I think I heard that around 40% of the number were female- with many citing the violent and misogynistic abuse they were facing, usually from faceless cowards on social media.
