No we don't, that's a complete lie. There are 2 normal prices 6am-6pm starts at £2.60 and 6pm-6am is £3.60, only prices dearer are xmas and new year. I've seen quotes from Uber at busy times going from city centre to the airport of £45-60 during a surge, our prices stay the same even when we're chocka but don't let the truth get in way of having a dig at taxi drivers. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. With regards to a £60 Uber to the airport I’ve never saw anything close to that. However, I could pay for a good few £60 Uber’s to the airport and still end up better off because of how much I’ve saved elsewhere on them. That’s the nature of their pricing structure. Just because the meter is the traditional taxi method of deciding a fare it doesn’t make a new, more technologically advanced method wrong, as much as you might like to think it.Last edited by calumhibee1; 13-09-2019 at 04:58 PM.

I done Uber for 3 months through last winter never seen an airport fare anywhere near that.
Cabbies think that the surge is constant trust me it’s not.

I’m not doubting that the system would allow it and it may well have even happened. But it would be a rarity to say the least.

I’ve said before if it a surge cancel and try again in 5 mins as it draws cars to the area the demand will drop.

There's a lot of detail about it on one of the 'worst pubs in Edinburgh' threads kicking about on here. It's by no means a rough pub but definitely merits it's place on the list.

I do have a bit of sympathy for J-C and the like having to go through The Knowledge etc, but there are choices for the drivers as well as the punters nowadays.

The poster in question is allowed the benefit of the doubt for making the journey by uber. 399000 out of 400000 jambos would have just taken the rover.

This bogus self employment and ‘flexibility’ is a nonsense that flies in the face of all the workers rights that we’ve fought so hard for. Technology has the potential to make so many people’s lives better but far too often it’s enabling the select few to line their pockets while everyone else is gradually finding things tougher.
It’s a shame that people’s financial circumstances force them into a corner by taking the cheaper option, exacerbating the problem.

Look at his post again, he said taxi go up in price when it's busier, nonsense. The prices are set by the council and are a daytime and nighttime starting price which all metered PHC ( all 5's, all 7's ) have as well, we cannot decide to up our prices whenever it gets really busy like after a rugby match or busy times during the festival.

Without knowing for certain what the logic is for the pricing increases and the time of them I’m presuming it’s because certain times are busier and/or less desirable to work (such as Christmas). If that’s not the case then maybe you can tell me what the logic behind the different tariffs is? And you could maybe even do it like an adult without pathetic personal insults.Last edited by calumhibee1; 14-09-2019 at 08:37 AM.

If using a taxi meter service though, I'll put my trust in someone who knows the best route, before an unskilled driver that doesn't know the city.
PHC discounts tend to get eaten up by the crap touted tgeyr drivers take.

My point was also taxis do not raise prices willy nilly like Uber do just because it's busy.
