    Torn Meniscus.

Looks like I've torn my meniscus in my left knee. Anyone had this and how long did it take to get mobile again?

Pissed off because I'm just about to go on holiday and there was lots of hiking, golfing and cycling planned. No way that's gonna happen now.

I believe it depends on the severity. You need to see a decent physio/sports doctor, I've been seeing FASIC at Edinburgh uni for my knee problems (wear and tear on the anterior). I could pm you someone good. You might need to pay unless you have private insurance, I never had luck with nhs referral but I believe it is possible.

Thanks for the offer Bollah but I live in Germany and am insured here. I've been referred to a specialist next week.

Guess your right about the severity playing a role in how long the recovery will take but I was just trying to get a feel for how long I'm going to be immobile. I can stand and hobble with a straight leg but bending it is impossible. I'm particularly peeved because I'm due to go on holiday next week and was planning on quite a few physical activities.

Guess I'll just have to see what the specialist says now.

That's a nightmare. If you have travel insurance, you might be able to cancel/reschedule your trip and get any lost cash back.

Can I ask how you know it's a torn miniscus? Have you seen someone? I assume you haven't had an MRI. If some of the problem is inflammation around the knee I'd really recommend diclofenac. Much better for when ibuprofen isn't effective.

Yes I'm covered by a holiday/travel insurance but will go ahead with the holiday anyway. Plan B will be initiated. Lots of sitting around and drinking beer, doesn't sound much of a holiday because that's pretty much my normal routine.

Dr's diagnosis after I told him how it happened and him examining me. I've been given ibuprofen 800ers and they don't seem to help so I'll definitely ask about the diclofenac thanks. To be honest I'm feeling a bit more optimistic now as I managed a decent nights sleep last night and there's a bit more movement in the joint today. Maybe all that's needed is an extended rest. The Dr told me there's 2 parts to the meniscus, one that will heal on its own and one that won't. Here's hoping it's the former.
