    If he was getting the train here from London he'd be correct. A train going into London no matter which direction it has come from is described as "going up to London". Any train leaving London is "going down to...".

    Is that because Londoners see anywhere other than London as " downwards?"

    My sis stays in London and she talks about us going down to see them and them coming up to see us for Christmas.
