It's going to be pretty tight in terms of getting the draft completed by the first game, I reckon we need to speed up the average time per pick to under 2.5 hours (currently 2.8 hours per pick) just to be complete in time although that doesn't give Gatecrasher much time to put the teams in. @Gatecrasher - Can the teams be put in in stages or do you have to do it in one sitting, i.e. Once everyone has their first 9 picks complete, could you put those into the system so that if the draft wasn't complete by the first game at least we would all have a team to put out.

Perhaps I'm preaching to the choir but who cares, we need to get this thing moving. Everyone should have a good idea of who their next pick is going to be as soon as it's their turn. All you need to do is print out a cheat sheet with the top 300 players and cross them off as they are picked. When it's your turn, consider who is available at each position and marry that with your tactics to make your pick. I carry my cheat sheet around with me everywhere so that when it's my turn I can quickly make my pick from my computer at work, computer at home or cell phone if I'm out and about. Pretty much the only time I can't make a pick is when I'm sleeping. The point I'm making is that people shouldn't be spending a long time picking their player when it's their pick. I know that not everyone is by a computer 24/7 and there is nothing that can be done about that; we have to wait.

I have an idea which might not be popular but it's just something for people to think about. At any moment in time we know what players are still available. Everyone could create a list of players they want in order of preference. This list will have to be a lot longer than just the number of empty slots in your roster. Everyone submits their list to "someone" (I would volunteer) and that person goes through the remainder of the draft in a semi-automated way. I will take the top pick from each person's list and add them to their roster. Once a player is picked, they are removed from everyone else's lists. This continues on to the next person until everyone has a full roster. The only thing I don't like about this plan is that it takes all selectivity out of the equation i.e., you cannot alter your draft strategy based on other people's picks because you've locked-in your pics when you submitted your list. Here's an example of how it would work:

Player A: {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
Player B: {3, 2, 1, 4, 5}
Player C: {2, 4, 5, 1, 3}

Player A gets 1
Player B gets 3
Player C gets 2
Player A gets 4
Player B gets 5

A slightly different version would be to forget submitting lists and each player just gets the best available from an agreed upon list of players (ESPN, NFL.com, Rotowire, FantasyPros, etc).

The big issue with either of these is that you could end up with unfavourable picks. You could be unlucky enough to end up with three defenses just because of the way the lists are ordered (I guess the trick would be to leave defenses at the end of your list, where they belong).

That would move things along very quickly and we could use the time we've saved to resolve corner cases e.g., someone who might have 3 defenses gets to swap with a free agent or make a pre-season trade with another team.

I had the Seahawks D in year 1 of the league and won the title. There was not a week where my defense didn't score more than at least one of my starting WRs.

I went week-to-week on defense last year and finished fifth.

In the passing league we now see, a D that regularly make interceptions is not something to be scoffed at.

That being said, I know I way overdrafted, but I'm putting it down to the adaptation to a 16 team league
