Would be delighted if it was clarke but still think it will be someone like colin calderwood or maybe or possibly a foreign coach with good knowledge of the scottish game(not stuart baxter btw).We shall see but dont expect any announcement till friday or monday going by what hibs and petrie have done in the past. The delay suggests the candidates they interviewed or who sent application forms in arent what they were looking for and the guy they want is in a job(coach)and they are negotiating with him.Just a hunch.

Wiki can be just as bad as football rumours.
The quicker something is announced the better, we have a huge game against Killie on Saturday...I know its only October, but this is a huge game already.
Something a mate pointed out to me years has always stuck in my mind tho...when teams empty their manager they always seem to win their next game...so maybe next Monday will do! (just joking)!

I spoke to Dave McPherson at the gym yesterday and he said he'd be surprised if Clarke came up here for a job as England was probably his more likely option, seeing he'd played and coached there for years.

One thing for sure. It will be a massive disappointment if Steve Clarke is not appointed after all the recent speculation.
Fingers crossed the RUMOURS have some substance to them.

I got told on Monday that Clarke would be appointed on Tuesday but that didn't happen.. Does anyone have a reliable source saying or hinting that he'll be appointed later this week?

I think alot of us are going to be disappointed if Clarke isn't announced as manager.

Im sure Clarke was on 500K per year at The Hammers, doubt he'd take the wage drop.

Unless of course he couldn't resist the challenge!

Edit, Clarke signed a 4 year £1m+ contract in April 2009. West Ham must've coughed up close on £3m to sack him.Last edited by PaulSmith; 13-10-2010 at 10:16 AM.

He will need to start somewhere in management and won't be starting anywhere on £1m+ per year. So everyone will pay him less than he was on (but with money in the Bank this shouldn't be the issue, in effect).
In our favour we have; a reasonable profile, a track record in developing and selling talent for a profit, 16 players out of contract (which must be a HUGE plus) an excellent training facility and a modern stadium/great pitch.
He will know that if he were to do a good job with Hibs then he can step up to the EPL or the CCC and the big time, but he has to start somewhere so why not with us

Not always the case clubs put managers on gardening leave and continue to pay their salary. If the manager gets a new job offer he walks away with nothing or very little. Celtic have done this with Mogga

We're doing it again.
Clarke and Stark - the dream team - massive disappointment if they aren't appointed - rumours flying and panic setting in.
Clarke was on a huge salary down south. Can we match that?
He actually has no experience as "The Manager" - he's always been the second man in the team. That spells a gamble to me.
Stark wasn't spectacularly successful in club coaching/management IIRC. Nor has he been so with the Scotland U-21s. Another gamble.
I was moderately supportive of the appointment of Clarke at first.
Now, I think we've just built the guy up for a fall.
For those who would be 'massively disappointed' if he isn't appointed - what reasons do you have for assuming that Steve Clarke's the man we MUST have if the team's to be turned around?
Why's HE the messiah rather than someone else?
This is like a freakin feeding frenzy.....

I don't think Clarke is the best option. Why must we continue to gamble on our managerial choices?

I think the time has come for us to appoint a tried and tested, experienced Manager and someone who is more than likely to see out his contract at Hibs. We need some stability now, not more Managerial turmoil a few months down the line.

My concern now is that Steve Clarke my have seen what is actually available and Petries budget might not match Clarke's ambition. Perhaps he has turned us down

This looks like it going to be the best wind-up ever.
We all thought Clarke was a shoe-in, they picked someone who we wanted but was believable and we all fell for it. We even thought he'd be appointed on Monday and started giving excuses about the under-21s playing so it would be put back, then the full team were playing so that's why. Now we've changed our mind are are apparently interviewing someone I've never heard of for the job.
Well done whoever thought it up!
