Yep, this has monumental scope to backfire.

This better be gold-plated. If it's just gossip ultimately leading to a mass outbreak of disappointment amongst the Hibs support then it's not going to be at all easy for the guy who eventually gets the Manager's job.

I've just posted on the mega thread - Paul Le Guen in talks about the Hibs job, if he doesn't get it ex Mourinho assistant at Porto and Chelsea Baltemar Brito in line. Source - this morning's Times, quoting a source close to the club.

sure there was a thread on here last night saying the same thing, the problem is it just takes one person to send a text and it just gets passed on from there and soon becomes fact.

Theres are lots of reasons people make things up stroke their ego, importance, others taking notice of them, wind up merchants etc etc...Or they may just be mistaken..

Personally from what I have read I wouldnt say that in this instance..Suppose we just have to wait and see..

The interesting thing about this story is that it was written by Speirs, who was Le Guen's biographer here and remains a close associate...so probably has a lot of truth in it.....

I would be really surprised if there was an announcement today.

The board said last Tuesday that it ould take the necessary time to get the right man for the job.

It's only been a week since Yogi left so I doubt all the candidates have been interviewed yet.

Having said that, I was wrong once before though.

Although he didn't have a great deal of success at Rangers, PLG would be a major coup. Johnny Collins footballing philosophy is similar to that of Le Guen is it not?

He hasn't had any success since rangers either though, seems to just go from job to job and never for very long at any club/country.

Not sure if he'd be any use or not at Hibs - and seriously doubt he'd be interested - but presumably he's learned from his experience. In France he would have been working with players who had spent their formative years away from home at club academies, where it's probably easier to influence their behaviour and attitudes. He came to a different culture and tried to transfer these behaviours and attitudes to a squad of 'grown-ups'

, who have lived and developed differently. Much as I agree with his approach to professional football, his mistake - and J.C's - was failing to get his players onside with his project.

Clarke's name has been in there since the beginning and normally with a guy at that type of level he'd be in sharpish to say he wasn't interested and wated to manage in England if that was the case.

For that reason I think the silence suggests it will be him.

Have to agree Andy, there just seems to be way too much talk surrounding him, bookies arent usually that wrong either, as you say with the speculation and not so much as one sentence from Clarke or his representatives trying to distance himself from it all, silence is deafening.
