    Cameron = Gene Hunt

    Has anyone seen the new poster?

    I see what they're doing with the back to the 80s and that but does anyone else think they've picked Gene Hunt due to the word his surname rhymes with?

    I really hope that was part of their thinking behind the choice.

    I don't know what's worse: the fact that somebody thought this was an idea; or, the fact that someone else agreed; or, the Tories response.

    Backfired though, hasn't it? Makes Cameron look a lot better than he actually is.

    Read some analysis of this yesterday. It's basically along the line of Labour is missing the point - Cameron is the Tories electoral asset (not with me or probably many folks north of the Border. Brown is also the Tories electoral asset.

    Why they then chose a poster which puts Cameron centre stage is beyond me.

    Looking forward to the election and I'd be happy to see a change of government, even if it is to be a Tory one. Like nappies, governments need changed often and for the same reason.

    Gene Hunt is the epitome of everything great about the 80's, people might look at this poster and think, " hey! gene Hunt, he's brill, lets vote for him."

    It's a no brainer, only poofs, nonces and prossies would vote against Gene. Him and Cameron don't have much in common though.

    Quite why the Tories would want anyone to hark back to the 80's is beyond me.

    Maybe related to the almost universal negative response to the recent Tory campaign that had Cameron centre stage and was spoofed to hell on the web??

    You asked why they would do that and a perfectly reasonable explanation was given and then you say 'Aye but this one backfired'.

    Well they obviously didn't think it would or they wouldn't have done it! You're response makes no sense to your original question!

    Lets see whether it backfired or not once the election results are out.
