    Some forum legality advice needed

    Hi all,
First off, to admin, apologies if this is in the wrong section. If it is just delete it, I'll know why.

I, amongst others, run a car related club, with a web forum of about 4200 members, mostly from the UK.
We have an ex member (he asked to be removed after a disagreement) who wants all references to him and his car removed from our forum. I've removed all his photos, that being the ones he actually took, and most of his forum posts. There are other pictures of his car on the forum, even though they weren't taken by him. Hows our legal position on this? Can he demand they're taken down, after previously agreeing to them being posted? How about any other references to him?
I would presume that by joining the forum in the first place then he agreed that anything posted by members is the opinion of the poster, and would not mean the website or its staff/admin can be held responsible.
For reference, he no longer owns the car.

    Thanks for any input.

This is pure speculation but is there maybe something in the T&Cs when signing up that states any posts or references are owned by the forum?

I'd speculate that is why you cannot post illegal links to football etc as it is the forum that will be closed down and not the individual that would be targetted.

    As I say, pure speculation.

Can you delete a user name from the database which would remove all posts or would that cause referencial integrity issues with the site?

(Edit: I'm not an Admin - just sticking my tuppence worth in)

I'm just guessing here too but it must be legal to leave the car in but blot out the plate thus making the car not that particular vehicle.

    - you see that all the time on TV programmes where the owner effectively has no prio knoweldge of their presence in the clip/picture yet they will not be contacted for permission.

Individuals can be pursued ..if libel for instance has been proved & it is taken to court then the "individual" owner of said site can be prosecuted & of course the site being closed down ..

In the instance of the OP ..if he has been asked to delete details etc from a former member & has done so then i can see no reason for the former member to pursue any further..

    Just my opinion ..
