Cool Mike Smith RIP (dave Clark 5)

Mike Smith, lead singer of the Dave Clark 5 dies at the age of 64.

The Dave Clark 5 were one of the first British Bands to tour the USA as part of the British Invasion and helped open that market up to all bands from the Uk ever since.

Probably more for the oldies on the board.

Fair comment. They were very poppy but Smith had a terrific voice. Such as Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen described him as one of the best vocalisists of his era.

It should really have been The Mike Smith Five, Clark was a substandard drummer with a good business brain, Mike Smith was a great singer who reminded me of the great John Fogerty.

Again, can't disagree. Found this very good interview with Dave Clark where those subjects are discussed.

Why not the Mike Smith 5?

Ahh generous old Dave Clark. He had all the e-type jag, the flat in Mayfair the band on a wage and he copped the lot from the record sales.
Mike Smith was a good singer, an old fashioned belter. RIP
