Absolutely this. He left a marked man and he will be again if we resign him.
the only way he can clear his name and get a fair deal from refs uo here would be to sign for the infirm.

For all his wee issues, Porteous is still a quality player who'd improve us, show me any player at the level we're playing at that doesn't have flaws.

I think Iredale's consistency has been the biggest shock this season. I genuinely think you prob count the mistakes he's made on 1 hand and that includes a nothing stray pass. When you take into count he wasn't even playing consistently before it's a ridiculous level of performance to maintain.
Iredale is the best defender in the league and I won't be convinced otherwise.

If Porto is a replacement for Rocky then the debate about who's better between the two is fair enough but hopefully Porto will be playing along side Rocky in which case we need to be debating whether he's better than Miller and O'Hora, which I think he is.

Jack Iredale is better than them all though and as head of his fan club I'd appreciate it if his name was left out of the debate

You pulled the equivalent one of these to try to make Porteous look bad, but didnae bother with this one which is hardly a glowing endorsement of Simons.

    Tells me you’re slightly bias.
Not all . I didn’t bother with the your one because I simply didn’t come across it , if I had I would have posted it like what I posted on him that had quite a few mixed opinions from he was a good solid reliable player to he won’t be missed … thanks for posting it though

Probably nothing in it, Doig linked with Celtic today.

I think his mindset is important for sure. It’s something that we’d have to trust SDG and Malky Mackay on deciding it they think he’d be a welcome addition to the changing room. They haven’t gotten it wrong so far so whatever they decide I’d trust is right.

What other fans say of Porto is of no interest to me personally, he’s out of favour and thus will not be spoken well about. You can look at any forum for any out of sorts player and find comments that would back up your point to not sign them. If you went deep enough about Rocky you’d find the same here.
The mindset is important as it is the main issue and as I said there is no doubting when that’s right he is a good player. I agree it’s something we will have to trust Gray and Mackay on though hopefully we won’t need to if Rocky stays . Fair enough too in you don’t have any interest in other fan’s opinions about Porto or other players , personally I always find them interesting in what they think of players strengths and weaknesses or their character in general and how they are getting on that their clubs even though they may vary at times .👍

I hope not. Signing for Celtc to be understudy to Tierney isn’t the right move for his career.

I hope he stays in Italy.

Surely not never going to get in ahead of Tierney, would be a very poor move for him in my eyes.

The amount of time KT spends injured, I’d expect anyone to get about 70% of a season being his back up.

    Would agree though.
    A daft move.

If Juventus are sniffing about, as was suggested, that would be a far better move IMO.

A massive club that he would be daft to ignore.

Not sure what the left back position is like at the old lady mind.

Andrea Cambiaso often plays left back. Scored for Italy the other day, sure Man City are meant to be looking at him though so could open the door for Doig.

How do you think he would do up here?
Technically still a very good player, however I can't see Rangers being his destination. He'll still have suiters down south who can pay more and are closer to home.

According to reports, Sunderland preparing a £10m bid for Lennon Miller
Still never seen anything from him any time watched him for Motherwell. Not saying he's not as good as made out, clearly everyone thinks so, just not seen any of it. If someone said we were up against a 10 million pound midfielder in our games v Well last season would have assumed he'd missed all those games injured. If someone said to me you could pick one midfielder from Well for Hibs I'd have picked Slattery (Well really Miller if for nothing else to sell him on, but you get the point).

    I think I'd make a terrible scout!

Villa absolutely shafted us with 2.5m for McGinn.
The up front fee was £2.75m was it not. IIRC there was also add-ons for promotion to the Premiership and avoiding relegation. I think we got about £4m in total. Still a pittance though.

Seamus Coleman rumoured to have been offered another year deal at Everton . What a servant he’s been to them . Glad for him as he’s a really good guy in all .

Porteous made plenty mistakes, I’ve been very critical of him too.

More towards the end, I think out of frustration at how we were playing and probably the standard of player - similar to how fans felt. He looked like he was of a “I’ll do it myself” which meant he’d rampage over the pitch to try win the ball back, often exposing gaps and resulting in him making mistakes.

However, under SDG and with the other players we now have at the club, I think he’d be a lot more settled and his game would be massively simplified.

    Would 100% take him back

The only club who tried to shaft us were Celtic. Which is why we did not sell to them.

Market forces...McGinn was in the last year of his contract and one else came in which is why we accepted their bid.

To suggest Villa shafted us is cr*p.

Correct. Beat me to it. In addition, Villa were a Championship club unlike Sunderland - if that’s where the other poster is getting his shafted nonsense from.

Villa didn’t shaft us but it’s mad what we got for McGinn and you see the figures talked about for Miller. Surely no one is paying that kind of money for him with a year left on his deal.

Lennon Miller's contract expires in May 2026, surely it must mean that Motherwell are only due 2-3M due to "Market Forces"?

But in today's market if Lennon Miller is worth 10M in his final year of his contract, then so was John McGinn.

Maybe harsh to say they shafted us, but 2.75M was not a true reflection of what we should have sold John McGinn for.

If Porto had been linked with Rangers we’d all be well pissed off that he wasn’t coming to us as we all know he’d do a great job for someone else. I’d welcome him back but hope Rocky stays too. 🤞

With SJM’s contract situation the way it was we probably got as much for him as we were going to get in the end ..

For me if their was anyone to blame for how much we got in the end I blamed Celtic and their low-ball offers because they thought they were going to get him anyhow…

Was delighted when Villa came in and him and they were left looking incredible stupid because they **** up which they did

That is the way to look at it. What a tremendous servant he has been for Villa. What a tremendous servant he could have been to Celtic. The only ones shafted were Celtc - and they did it to themselves!

Not nonsense but glad to see its bothered you so badly.

10m for a club who have spent the best part of the last 10 years struggling in the English football league compared to a club with Billionaire investors who spent 2 years in the Championship and came back up at 2nd time of asking with the 3rd richest owners in the PL to add to that.

10m for Lennon Miller who's spent his Motherwell career playing bottom 6 football.

John McGinn who was bossing the SPFL at the time of his departure along with having played regular European football.

Porto in a good hibs side will be a huge asset, its when he has to force things and take risks that does him no favours.

We are decent now, and he does not need to break into midfield trying to push us forward, and with other good quality signings we can be even better, i hopefully include him in that.

Who was willing to pay more?

A player is only worth whatever another club is willing to pay for them.
