    Andy Rourke RIP

This is a sore one, gutted to hear he has passed away. The Smiths were for me one of the greatest bands these islands ever produced and his bass playing was a vital part of their sound. When I think of 80s music it’s The Smiths that instantly spring to mind. I’ll be playing a few tracks tonight.

    Every gimmick hungry yob,
Digging gold from rock and roll
Grabs the mic to tell us,
    He'll die before he's sold.

Fantastic bassist in a band who were peerless. I find myself going back every so often to listen to one of the studio albums or ‘Rank’ and they really were sublime.

Although Morrissey and Marr got the attention, the rhythm section were excellent too. It is telling that post-Smiths, Rourke was asked to play with several top musicians. For me his bass playing was a bridge between A Certain Ratio and the likes of the Stone Roses.

Sad loss and all those bass hooks will be a bit more poignant now.

Well said, mate. It really is a shame; gone far too young.
