    Hibs Sports Gala 13,000

A friend has a photo her grandad took of Gordon Smith saving a penalty v the original rangers during a 5 a side game . It was on 14 July at Meadowbank. Her grandad describes his photo as taken at a ‘Sports Gala’ at Meadowbank and ‘ 13,000 present’. We are trying to find out the year? Size of crowd indicates 1950s when Hibs were on fire. Any ideas folks?

A bit before my time but the reference to Meadowbank suggests it was played at the old Edinburgh Monarchs speedway stadium so there might be some information through any historical records of there.

Probably the Police Sports. A mixture of athletics and 5 a sides usually held at New Meadowbank or Powderhall. Always well attended.
