Dickey Betts, guitarist with the Allman Brothers.

Immortalised by the theme song to Top Gear, but so much more than that.
Brothers and Sisters was one of the first albums I bought with my own money.

Don't know if you know the band, Safehouse?

They play a lot of Allmans stuff, indeed they have a side-project as an Allmans tribute. They're playing at Stramash tomorrow (as themselves), so the setlist might have a few changes

My first memories of people smoking dope at a student party. Ramblin' Man by the Allman Brothers playing in the background to a call of "get that crap off" by a long haired chap with a copy of The Velvet Underground & Nico under his arm.

Have to say it wasnae my scene.

    RIP Dickey

He also recorded two albums for children, “Planet With One Mind” (1995) and “A People With One Heart” (1996), in which he told stories, accompanied by his musical arrangements.

“We wanted stories that had multilevel meanings,” he told The San Francisco Examiner in 1997, referring to the search for the right picture books that he pursued with his wife, Taralee (Grant) Pinder. “We went through hundreds of books. We were looking through a lot of books that were like, ‘The rabbit went down to the mouse’s house for a cup of tea.’ But we were looking for books like, ‘The rabbit went down to the mouse’s house and discussed the Zen of tea making.’"

Jeez. Don’t know how I missed this. Very sad news. Chris was the bass player in the band though.

I'd missed the fact Derek Underwood, demon spinner for Kent and England died recently. Seemed to be in the England team all the way through the 70s

Underwood was a brilliant bowler with Kent and England his partnership with Allan Knott behind the stumps was brilliant over so many years.

That's a shame. I worked a lot with his Uncle (Bruce McClure) when I was young.
