There'll be Bluebirds over, the white cliffs of Dover....

'...the ironic thing is, there have never been bluebirds over England’s shores. The birds live in North America, not Europe. '

That the Press & Journal or Dundee Courier (I've seen both mentioned) ran with the headline 'Aberdeen/Dundee Man Lost At Sea' when the Titanic sank.

Given how gloriously parochial Scotland can be I almost wish this was true but it's a myth. The Aberdeen Daily Journal (predecessor to the Press & Journal) did have a small sub headline reading 'Aberdeen people were on the Titanic' but it's hardly surprising for a local newspaper to find a local angle.

Digressing slightly but the Aberdeen fanzine ‘The Northern Light’ used to take the mickey out of the P & J as North East Man’ seemed to be very unlucky as he was involved in crashes, explosions etc every day.

The Kilt, in the form we have today (e.g. as worn to weddings and football games), is Scottish.

    Nope

.. the original kilt looked nothing like the 'Tartan Skirt' that people call a kilt nowadays and the modern version was actually invented by an Englishman called Thomas Rawlinson.

Before the kilt they had the great kilt, which was really a very large tartan plaid blanket that was wrapped around the wearer over their normal clothing, basically worn to keep themselves warm when out and about.

If asked I would have said it was!

Is it something obviously not vegetarian that goes into it?

Same boat to that I imagine would be parmesan cheese.

I'd imagine it will be suet that goes into a white pudding to stop it being veggie (unless it is vegetable suet of course).

It is suet, but occasionally can also have bits of pig's liver, or just pork in general (though usually.pretty small amounts)

In The Muppet Christmas Carol (which is definitive IMO) there are five ghosts.

The carrots one come from WW2 when it was said that a British pilot, 'cats' eyes' Cunningham ate them so he could see better as a night fighter pilot. The truth is that it was a cover for aircraft mounted radar, and years later he admitted that he hated carrots and never ate them.

That you lose 50/60/70% of your body heat through your head. It's closer to 10% which is about comparable to the surface area of the body your head and neck covers.

As a counter to the 'Things that are true' thread, I thought it might be interesting to have one about commonly believed myths.

George W. Bush never said the problem with the French is they have no word for entrepreneur.

That story was entirely false and was made up by Shirley Williams, possibly as a joke.

I was quite disappointed to learn that!
