As a counter to the 'Things that are true' thread, I thought it might be interesting to have one about commonly believed myths.
George W. Bush never said the problem with the French is they have no word for entrepreneur.
That story was entirely false and was made up by Shirley Williams, possibly as a joke.
I was quite disappointed to learn that!

You’re never more than (a foot/ a metre/ insert chosen distance measurement/) from a rat. Everyone says this when this rodent comes up in conversation.
It’s balls though. What if you’re in the middle of a desert? Scuba diving? Up a ladder?

Napoleon Bonaparte was only 5'2" is both true and false. The military leader was measured in French inches, which were longer than English inches. As a result, though Bonaparte is put at five-foot-two, he was actually closer to five feet and seven inches.

Goldfish’s 3-Second Memory
While not the smartest in the animal kingdom, goldfish do boast a better memory than most politicians.

Edited since it’s a family board. The rude double entendres names that are often said to have existed in the kids show Captain Pugwash didn’t actually exist in the show.
There was a Master Mate and a Tom the Cabin Boy. There was no character called Seaman.Last edited by overdrive; 04-12-2022 at 10:32 PM.
