    Tall Players

Marseille have just signed a 19 centre back, Isaak Touré from Le Havre (where we signed Boozy), for 5million euro. Very highly rated player, but main feature is he's 6 foot EIGHT, 2 metres 4 cm. I was just surmising if he played against Jamie McCluskey he'd have 17 inches on him, Jamie could probably just have run right through his legs

Can anyone think of any ridiculously tall players we've had, particularly outfield? (Macey is the most obvious example). Big Amadou was 6 3", cant think of many others.

Yup. Think Crouch was 6ft7 as well for anyone wanting to put Marseilles new signing into perspective. He must be absolutely giant.

Is that rhyming slang for "fairly sh-te"?

Colin Nish was probably about 6’3” but had the unique talent of being 5’7” when he jumped
    PERSEVERE
    Verb: pə:ːsɪ'ˈvɪə/
    To not give up.
    To go the distance.
    To stop at nothing.

One of the things we miss with Doidge not in the team is his height when defending set pieces.

Ok he’s not that tall, but he rises like an oak tree which is worth a few more inches.

    Cruel but accurate.

Same with Tony Higgins, sure he was about six foot seven or eight - but the popular opinion was you couldn’t get an Evening News under his feet when he jumped. Frustrating when you have a player of that height and it can’t be used to the team’s advantage.

Saw Nishy walking down Musselburgh High Street recently and he looks fit as a butcher’s dug 👍 mind he did jump like he’d eaten a string of sausages and a few pies before a game 😂.

Chipped in with a fair few goals though, with feet and head. 👍

Nishy’s height was his biggest curse because it made you think he was something he wasn’t.

Whilst he could certainly frustrate at times, he was an effective player when you played it into his feet and got support up around him.

Ballooning it up to his head with nobody near him (as we seemed to do quite frequently) then he was as useless as most players are with that level of service.

We’ve had worse front lines than Nish, Riordan and Stokes and on his day he could hold his own with the other 2.

Some of the abuse he got at times was ridiculously uncalled for.

On the subject of Nish, mind he scored an absolute belter away at Dundee United, think it was a half volley from about 25-30 yards out - might’ve scored 2 that day actually yet still contrived to miss an absolute sitter the same game.

That chance he missed right at the death at the PBS still gives me nightmares

I was in DU hospitality that day - we were so far ahead in the first half some of them left at half time. We hung on for a 2-2 draw second half, I recall!

That was the year we needed a draw to qualify for Europe iirc.

Fairly certain it was grand national day.
