    2022 Wimbledon

One of my favourite two weeks of the year is almost here and the excitement is building after the draw has now been made.

Despite the controversy surrounding this year's tournament before a ball has been served, due to the All England Club's decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from entering this year's tournament, play starts on Monday and I can't wait despite missing large parts of it due to work.

Andy Murray faces Australian James Duckworth in round one which is a match he should win. However he is in a tough quarter as he potentially faces former semi-finalist John Isner in round two, youngster Jannik Sinner awaits him in round three and then potentially a last 16 tie v Carlos Alcaraz.

He should get through round one (if he stays fit) but I'd suggest it's a tough draw overall for Murray.

A quarter final v Novak Djokovic would probably be in store if he gets that far.

9th seed Cam Norrie faces Pablo Andujar in round one and Queen's champion Matteo Berrettini plays Cristian Garin.

Rafael Nadal has made it and he opens up against Francisco Cerundolo.

One man who hasn't made it is Roger Federer. He has played in every Wimbledon event since making his debut in 1999 but he hasn't played since last year's Wimbledon and considering he will be 41 in a few weeks' time there must be a doubt as to whether we have seen him at SW19 for the final time.

On the women's side top seed Iga Swiatek is looking to extend her winning run which is currently at 35 matches. She plays her opening match v qualifier Jana Fett.

Although Federer won't be involved another Wimbledon legend has made it. Serena Williams also hasn't played since last year's Wimbledon but she has declared herself fit and will play Harmony Tan in round one.

Emma Raducanu will play Alison Van Uytvanck in her first round.

No ranking points will be at stake this year after the ATP and WTA punished Wimbledon for their aforementioned ban of players from Russia and Belarus but I'm sure we'll be in for a cracking fortnight.

Not viewed the draws yet but will go for either Hurkacz or Berrettini to win it this year.

Can’t see Swiatek keeping her run going as grass not her favourite surface, although she won junior Wimbledon a few years ago.
Kvitova or the Brazilian girl maybe ?

    Berretini's potential route;

    Round 1 - Cristian Garin
(44th in the world - best Wimbledon performance last 16)

    Round 2 - Marc-Andrea Hüsler
(104th in the world - best Wimbledon performance main draw debut)

    Round 3 - Jenson Brooksby
(34th in the world - best Wimbledon performance main draw debut)

    Last 16 - Diego Schwartzman
(15th in the world - best Wimbledon performance 3rd round)

    Quarter finals - Stefanos Tsitsipas
(6th in the world - best Wimbledon performance last 16)

    Semi finals - Rafael Nadal
(4th in the world - best Wimbledon performance winner)

    Final - Novak Djokovic
(3rd in the world - best Wimbledon performance winner)

Berrettini really shouldn't have any problems getting into the semis and I would love to see him playing Nadal. I would say he would be a great bet for the tournament.

    Hurkacz's potential route;

Round 1 - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
(38th in the world - best Wimbledon performance 1st round)

    Round 2 - Jiří Veselý
(66th in the world - best Wimbledon performance last 16)

    Round 3 - Tommy Paul
(35th in the world - best Wimbledon performance main draw debut)

    Last 16 - Cam Norrie
(12th in the world - best Wimbledon performance 3rd round)

    Quarter finals - Casper Ruud
(5th in the world - best Wimbledon performance 1st round)

    Semi finals - Novak Djokovic
(3rd in the world - best Wimbledon performance winner)

    Final - Rafael Nadal
(4th in the world - best Wimbledon performance winner)

Hurkacz should also be a decent bet for last 4.

Semis of Berrettini v Nadal and Hurkacz v Djokovic looks very possible.

Wonder how far Norrie will get. He gets ignored a bit by the British media due to his upbringing in SA/NZ. Didn't help himself by calling Wimbledon an exhibition though and I find him a bit difficult to warm to for some reason.

Jeez, you’ve been studying the draw
Like you I can’t see many troubling them.
Last year I liked the look of Shapavalov, maybe he could spoil the party

I personally don't see him getting too far to be honest. He doesn't have a good record at Wimbledon and has a potential banana skin in round one v Pablo Andujar and then if he gets through that he has a possible tricky encounter in round three v Grigor Dimitrov.

I'd be surprised if he makes it into the second week.

I love Wimbledon, it's one of the truly great traditional events in world sport. Beautiful venue, the history, the drama. I would like to go some time.

Will Boris Becker be commentating as usual?

Think he might be struggling this year!

I highly recommend Wimbledon to anyone with even a slight interest in tennis, the first time I entered Centre Court was one of the best things I've ever experienced. Such an iconic place and I absolutely love the tournament.

Djokovic lost the second set v Soonwoo Kwon but did win sets one and three and is a break up in the fourth set so will probably be safely into round two.

In terms of major shocks we may be seeing one on Court Three as one of the favourites to go deep in this tournament is last year's semi-finalist Hubert Hurkacz but he is two sets down to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

Djokovic into the second round after a win in four sets.

Hurkacz also making a bit of a comeback - he won set three and is a break up in set four.

This is exactly why I love men's Grand Slam tennis, even after losing the first two sets a player can still come back to win the match.

Raducanu on now on Centre Court so expect Murray on at some point between 6 - 6.30pm.

  15. #14
    First set to Raducanu 6-4.

  16. #15
Cam Norrie safely through in straight sets.

  17. #16
Hubert Hurkacz is out in the first major shock of this year's championships.

Despite coming back from two sets down to take it into a decider, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won in five sets.

That really opens things up for Norrie now and he'll fancy his chances of getting to the quarter finals now.

Caught the tiebreak at the end of the Hurkacz match, really surprised at his exit. Apparently he was serving for the match before the breaker. Hope Norrie can go deep now
