Wonder what fee would be for macey? considering he's still under contract.

    Nothing. We'd likely free him.

Doesn’t make commercial sense, unless he’s been told he can find a new club

It does if it frees up his wage and a club is willing to sign him direct. He was our number one until Marshall so is likely on a decent wage. That can be recycled for someone who'll contribute rather than sit on the bench. Kev is a very good back up and might be able to push on to become first choice now.

    That's commercial sense.

My thinking as well, the club thinks Kev will benefit from a couple seasons training with Marshall with a view to becoming number 1. He’s a more than able backup so makes sense to let Macey leave.

We won’t get any real kind of fee for Macey if he is to move on, it’s probably in our best interest to free up his wages now that Marshall is here so doubt we will try and hold out for a decent fee and risky losing the deal.

Its really unlikely anyone is paying a fee. If he goes, I think we'll be freeing him. He very likely has been told he can find another club because we'd signed a new keeper already.

The mutter in the gutter recently is that Matt Macey wants to go back down south and that Hibs won’t stand in his way.

Couldn’t see him wanting to play second fiddle to David Marshall.

Maceys a decent keeper and should be able to pick up a a gig in a lower league English club.

The. question is whether Kevin Dabrowski wants to spend another season on the bench if Marshall keeps fit and in form. What I’ve seen of Dabrowski indicates that he could be a good acquisition for a Championship club or a Premiership one who’s main ambition is to stay in the top tier and avoid relegation.

At a club like Hibs Macey isn’t good enough to be first choice but would want too high a wage to be backup. He’d do well at someone like Motherwell, Kilmarnock etc. but his shot stopping stats nor his distribution are any better than average.

Nice guy and a good pro so no ill feelings but a notable downgrade on Marciano and hopefully Marshall.

Coat us nothing as did Marshall, Macey going frees up his wage for Marshall, plus I'd think Macey would be on a decent wedge considering where he came from.

Making Dabrowski cup keeper would be a good start to help his development and keep him happy game wise, a season learning from Marshall will do him no harm at all.

Lots of chat from Celtic fans that Liam Scales will be going to Aberdeen on loan.
Might do himself some justice with them.

Was going to complete a team sheet of fish related players, but I’ll need to remove the scales before I fillet.

Makes sense to get rid of Macey now that we have Marshall. Hopefully Luton can take him off our hands.

Sorting out the goslkeeping position which is probably the last area in the team that needs fixing feels a wee bit 'so what?'

We need those forwatd areas sorted out pronto and not with 19 yr old laddies and 37 yr old has beens.

Our problems need solved with quality footballers. Far too much focus on their age on here. Doesn't matter a jot.

I agree, all the aspirational talking and discussions on tactics and formations is irrelevant really. The only thing that fixes it is by signing quality players. If we can’t afford to do that then we’re no further forward.

If we also want to build from the back then you need a goalie with decent distribution and frankly, Macey's was abysmal. Having a more experienced keeper who will hopefully be able to make better decisions will help us.

    It does.

Time and time again we’ve signed 19 year olds and people on here are expecting thme to be first team picks. They rarely are, they’re for develelopment and hopefully come good.

Older pros at the end of their career aren’t the answer either. We get limited benefit out of the likes of Grant Holt and Jonaton Johansson although there is the occassional glimmer of glories past.

We might get away with signing a quality 37 yr old goalie but for what? Two years? I think we would have been better sticking with , and developing Macey and getting a decent fee.

Looking forward to seeing what quality we get in.

''time and time again'' really? When were these times? Don't think we've ever consistently signed kids and expected it to work. Although most of our best players in the last 20 years have been under 23 when they joined.

Quality players are always the answer. Always. I couldn't give a monkies what age they are.

Must say I enjoy the puns - at least there's some logic to them which cant be be said for a large percentage of postings on most threads.
