Thread: McTominay

    McTominay

Anyone know what Man United fans think of him?

Every United manager since Mourinho have played him. He never seems to do much wrong, but then never anything spectacular.

My big brother is a Man Utd fan and I continually ask him why if McTominay is worthy of a starting place at United in what way would John McGinn be a step down from him if they were to sign him

Bit like Darren Fletcher back in the day.
A Mr dependable type who does a lot of the boring graft that proceeds the glamorous end product that the show ponies get all the credit for.

I think it's to do with homegrown quotas and the fact the have developed him themselves, which is a big part of their history and they pride themselves on that. They are saving themselves £30m by doing so as well.

I think he is an excellent player and is learning all the time, much like both Fletcher and Carrick himself, they both got even better with age, so much so, Fergie, from being squad players, played them in their most important games.

After over a year of telling him SJM is just what Man Utd need he's finally come round to my way of thinking

They'd compliment each other very well at United. Would love to see SJM there next season

To be fair, McTominay has never been on Juventus's books

Hasn't scored against Rangers and Celtic either.

Carrick was never a squad player at United tbh. Signed him for big money at the time and he played every week.

I don’t think Man Utd fans like McTominay very much.

At least that was the view on a phone in I was listening to… whether that’s representative or not.

    Decent player for Scotland though.

Most I’ve seen like him, but hate him and Fred in the same team for obvious reasons.

I always got the vibe that they did, but they can't stand him playing with Fred. In general though I think he quite well liked.

I was just about to say this, Carrick might have improved at Man U but he was already a really good player before he went there.

Think McTominay is a good squad player for a club competing for titles. Consistent and you know what you get from him, but he wouldn’t get near Liverpool or a Man City’s midfield, probably not Chelsea’s either IMO. Think he benefits from coming through their youth system rather than having been bought like Fred.

    I wonder who that was?

McTominay is a quality player. It’s a telling sign for our national team when there’s a real chance he may not be an automatic starter if we had a game tomorrow.

McTominay is a superb player but I don’t see how he fits in the Scotland team.

The balance just looks better without him.

We’re getting to the point where our second XI might look stronger than it has for 30 years or so, which can only be a good thing.

He is a decent player, but not good enough to start in the Man United midfield most weeks. The same can be said of Fred. Both were favourites of Solskjaer, along with Maguire; personally, I think he was too loyal to some average players, and it will be interesting to see what happens now. There will certainly be some changes over the next few transfer windows.

Man of the Match last night. He was excellent, showing greater responsibility in controlling and directing the midfield. Could have had a hat trick of goals from outside the box.

MOM last night impressed by his power on the ball and drive getting stronger and stronger seemed to excel in the absence of Fernandes

    Reminds me of someone ?

That's what I thought too. Seems to just pass the ball sideways when the 'stars' like Fernandez are playing. Personally, I can't stand Fernandez.

Last night the first 8 mins of the game I was thinking that I really don’t know what he brings to the game. After his goal he was really good. Big ,strong breaking up play and willing to run forward and create. He needs to do this on a regular basis.

Ole played him as a DM alongside Fred, Clarke plays him in a back 3, he's best played as the box2box player, great engine and eye for goal. McGinn beside him would be a top midfield, energy, drive and goals.

And no one to bring the ball out of defence and move it around. No chance they would be a good midfield at the top level.
