We have a 2/3 chance of being in the same side of the draw as Italy or Portugal. Need to get lucky there to have any chance.

Whatever the draw is today it is going to be two hard games to qualify for this WC. North Macedonia beat good teams to get to this play off so they won't be the easiest, with our previous knowledge of Austria that could be a good option for us but I don't see an easy game in the semi or the final. Knowing Scotland we will beat the Czechs on pens in the semis and get beaten by a last minute goal from Italy in the final

It's a draw, ball 1 and ball 2 if 1 gets drawn then winner semi 1 is at home in the final verses semi 2.

Same for 3 v 4 and 5 v 6.

I don't think Sweden or Russia have better squads on paper - if you judge the starting XIs on caliber of player in terms of what league they play in, champions league experience etc. then an argument could be made that we are stronger (except maybe right back) - Scottish league is currently ranked higher than Russia's which most of their squad plays in.

but both are miles ahead of us in terms of results, consistency and tournament performances in the last few years.

Good examples of what we should be trying to emulate though - a hard working, hard to beat team, greater than the sum of its parts which regularly causes upsets and scrapes their way to quarter finals of majour tournaments.

Russia has a population of 146 million people to Scotland's 5 million.
Safe to say Russia have loads more good players than Scotland.

Seeded teams are only guaranteed a home semi - if it goes as per seedings it'll only be seeded teams in the finals so you can't guarantee home ties.

The draw will also determine who we could face in a potential final, should we be victorious in our semi-final match:

The winners of semi-final 1 will face the winners of semi-final 2.
The winners of semi-final 3 will face the winners of semi-final 4.
The winners of semi-final 5 will face the winners of semi-final 6.

In order to determine which of the semi-final winners will play at home in their finals, the following draw will be conducted:

Two balls with ‘semi-final 1’ and ‘semi-final 2’ will be placed in an empty pot. This first ball drawn will indicate the winners of which semi-final will play the final at home.

This will also apply for semi-finals 3&4 and 5&6.
