Remember a lot of that magical day very well, never seen a ticket for it before though 👍 We were underdogs, had a fair but fewer fans but created an incredible atmosphere and won it in style. Here’s hoping history repeats itself..
What a month that was let's hope for the same outcome at Hampden and the match into the new year against them. The football played that month probably the best I have seen.

It worked out ok the last time we played in a December final...

How did we get on the last time we had sleet and snow in a final?

It would. Hibs as a club & nearly every fan has been fuming about not getting a 50/50 split. Doncaster will gloat, saying he made the right decision. Can’t expect 25,000 in the future against The Old Firm if we can’t shift 19,500!
I think any hopes of a fair share in future will be irreparably damaged if they don't sell out, I know there are other factors; form, covid, time of year etc but still can't believe we are even considering it as a possibility, I expected the bulk of these 2k tickets to go almost immediately. Alarm bells should be ringing if selling 19.5k tickets for a cup final is not a formality. Remember, we sold out 37,000 to watch a worse, Bobby Williamson managed team in this cup, when the club was at a fairly low ebb, which makes this relative apathy hard to fathom.

Whilst I agree that I expected these additional tickets to sell like hotcakes, there is one major difference from the 2021 final to the 2004 final.

I know it went horribly wrong that day but we turned up expecting to beat a Livingston side struggling financially after beating Celtic and Rangers to get there. This year we are playing Celtic and it's a game we are expected to lose.

I think now you're getting down to the kind of people who only attend when the going's good - at the end of the day unless you're a diehard, people are attracted to a successful side and these are the sort of people who maybe see a final v Celtic as one where they won't be backing a winner so why bother?

It would be hugely disappointing if we don't sell out 19.5k for a cup final, regardless of the opposition, but I do think the "only turn up for cup finals" kind of fan are perhaps swayed by how likely it is that Hibs will win when it comes to deciding whether to go or not.

Spot on. If my extended family, who now reside down south, are anything to go by, I’m not surprised at the the time taken to sell out. They’re normally straight on the phone looking for tickets and seats to cup finals. Not a peep this time. Suspect it’s a mix of not expecting to win and already having a trip up to Edinburgh and beyond in the diary a week later.

I hope that these last tickets will be snapped up but it's very frustrating that these "best seats in the stadium" only become available after every one of our most loyal supporters have snapped up their tickets.

I understand why the club feels that the logistics surrounding swapping seats are difficult but surely it would be possible to wait until all the sold seat tickets have been issued / received then have a day or two when you could turn up at the ticket office and exchange not so good tickets for these prime ones if they've still not been sold.

Not expecting to beat Celtic isn't a great reason to stay away from a cup final. We were longer odds to beat Rangers in the semi and look how that turned out.

It won't stop me from going but then I'm not the kind of fan who only goes to cup finals. I do think some people in this bracket will be more inclined to attend a final where we start as favourites.

Our record of beating Celtic in Cup finals isn't great, so good reason to hide if you're a glory hunter. Against Livi in 04, there were thousands of folk who came along who rarely go to Hibs games, thinking it would be a good day out.

I went to that game with dread, fearing the worst!
Couldn't understand why so many Hibs fans were confident that day, it was a very poor Hibs team who hadn't won a league game for a couple of months (albeit with some young players who went on to be very good in later years, but were nowhere ready at that stage). Livingston were above us in the league at the time, though I think we caught them by end of season. I probably feel more hopeful for this one than I did for that one tbh.

Single handedly my worst (and first) Hampden experience. I was broken after it. Had never seen Hibs win anything before and thought it might be another 13/14 years before we won anything again. Awful, awful day. Luckily 2007 was just around the corner.

This time, much like the semi final, we're expected to be well beaten. I don't mind that.

I have to say the final being a week before Christmas is not helping one bit. I had to move heaven and earth for my permission to poke off for a weekend jolly.

I’m sure many will be in the same boat. Weather is crap and it’s a big expense just before Christmas that many families just didn’t budget for.

Still can’t figure out why it wasn’t kept as a March final?

    J
I can't afford it at this time of year so won't be going - and as you say I know others in the same boat, especially those who live outwith Scotland and the UK. I thought the best League Cup format was when it was done and dusted by late October.

The SPFL should have made the price the same as semi final considering how close the game is to Christmas. It is very bad timing for a cup final but they were probably dictated to by Premier Sports.

It's horrendous timing for a final. It's an expensive day out once you pay for the ticket, bus and bevvy. In saying that, what an amazing run up to Christmas it would be if we somehow won it!

That might have been the last time the GSTQ was played at a Scottish Final. It was booed by almost everyone in the stadium.

Premier sports are running the show in terms of that cup. They dictate everything including kick off times. Wouldn't suprise me if in the contract it guaranteed a full stadium in the final which has prompted the allocation for hibs.

They would have been screwed last season if it wasn't for covid considering the two teams that made it...

I wonder if the announcement of the Hearts tickets going on sale will have any impact on us shifting these?

With the pricing for each it's entirely possible people now have a choice to make. Is Hearts in January more appealing than a final in December? I'm lucky in that I can afford the final and have a ST covering the Hearts game, if I had to buy tickets for each then it would be toss a coin stuff because £100+ on football tickets at this time of year is too much for my budget and I daresay that of many others.

Cup final selling steadily. Lots of seasons won't go to Derby because of Covid 19.

Celtic did not sell out their allocation to fans eligible and have now opened it up to those who missed out.

Club could offer say a £5.00 voucher for the Hibs shop and online purchases for those who buy their tickets for the final from Thursday. Would cost the club £4000 but wiil probably pay for itself as people will buy stuff in the shop more than likely for a greater price than the voucher value.

There would be a bit of a noise from those who have already purchased their tickets, and so would miss out on such an offer, I would imagine.

Travel restrictions are ruling fans abroad pretty much out so perhaps something to take into account. Still, should easily be selling 19,500 for a national cup final. Would not be surprised with this new variant and the accompanying restrictions that will inevitably follow to see crowds restricted again early next year so folk should be making the most of 100% attendances whilst they last

Agree. but football clubs need to be flexible in their thinking. At this time of the year people will buy presents for people at the full price only to find out the price is less a few days before Xmas and sometimes half the price after Xmas. Club will still get it share of the ticket money from SPFL. In life you win some you lose some.

We were 7/2 to beat Rangers over 90 minutes, I fancy we'll be bigger odds against Celtic.
