Great header today. Hope he gets himself on a wee run of goals now.

Today could have been massive for him, should have been a scorer in a result at Ibrox. Instead, because of a diabolical decision, he spent the next hour running about without getting a kick and I almost forgot about his goal!

    Name Games Goals %age
    Leigh Griffiths 78 39 50
    Joe Harper 99 49 49
    Anthony Stokes 94 45 48
    Domonique Malonga 54 22 41
    Kevin Nisbet 57 22 39
    Christian Doidge 91 35 38

    Gordon Durie 58 22 38
    Steve Cowan 87 32 37
    Willie Irvine 98 31 32
    Stephen Crawford 82 24 29

Both Nisbet and Doidge aren't doing too badly, so far, in comparison with previous strikers who made between 50 and 100 appearances for the club.

Delighted for Nisbet that he scored, just a shame that the sending off intervened.

Hopefully this will spark a run of form and hopefully the goals will flow. He is having to adapt his game to the current set up. Given his football intelligence, I think he will do this just fine and silence his critics ( he certainly has here ) up and go on from strength to strength.

Where does Keith Wright sit in this lot given the timeframe?
Edit, if it’s only 50-100 I see why he’s not there!

The late great Joe McBride was the Daddy 58 goals in 91 appearances = 64%

Shudda played more but wouldn’t move thru from the Weedge and IIRC had quite a few goals wrongly ruled out for offside

    Legend!

How come he doesn’t feature in the above stats in that case, I wonder? Too early?

I didn't use Joe McBride Snr as an example as he was on a different level from those listed and also most folk made comparisons to Nisbets' scoring record / ability by judging him against more recent players. I did add Joe Harpers' details as he was the closest example to making 100 appearances.

There are loads of ways to look at stats and loads of players who could be compared but I chose those with between 50-100 appearances with the exception of Joe Snr who was, in my opinion, streets ahead of the rest.

I just about remember Joe McBride at Hibs, he scored loads of goals and was terrific for us. Am i right in saying he was let go by the smellies because he was a bit injury prone, and who replaced him at Parkhead?

I think he was considered injury prone but the soapies loss was our gain thankfully. I think Celtic bought Tommy Callaghan from somewhere like Dunfermline or Raith Rovers to replace Joe?

Joe McBride’s goal scoring record with Celtic was even more impressive scoring 86 goals in 94 games

When he returned from injury Stevie Chalmers and Willie Wallace had formed a partnership upfront that would see Celtic champions of Europe

JoeMcBride could not get his place back and lucky for us after losing Colin Stein to Der Hun he was sold to HIBS

Don’t think he was injury prone. He had a very bad knee(I think)injury which I’m pretty sure meant he missed half a season although he was still the top scorer in the league at the end of the season. I thought Celtic were nuts to let him go.

I was just a wee bit young to remember Baker in his prime, but Joe Snr was a goal machine and very good player, just a pity it all went tits up with T. Hart at the end. Him and Gerd Muller of W. Germany best goal scorers I seen.

Ramirez isn’t any better than Nisbet as a lone striker. Boyce has more goals but these are all penalties and absolutely nothing to do with being an effective lone striker, which is the discussion. If you want to argue Boyce is a better penalty taker then it’s fair and history shows he’s better than Nisbet. On overall play, open play goals and being part of the team they are pretty similar.

Please give your reasons for why Ramirez and Boyce are any better instead of lashing out when folk challenge your opinion.
