I absolutely love music from the 70s some absolute classics came from that decade, but the thing I love the most about that decade is the way they didn’t care that the lyrics didn’t always fit with the soundtrack, they just made it fit by shortening or elongating the lyrics to suit the soundtrack. My favourite is Toto, Africa. Genius.

That's one I'll always incorrectly lump in with the 80s. It's probably because I think of the 80s as secondary school (for me) onward, even though I started in 1979.

70's music is when I got seriously into music, Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees, Average White Band - AWB and Cut the Cake and Steely Dan - Can't Buy a Thrill are just some of my favourites. In the late 70's The Jam, The Police, almost forgot Lou Reed and Robert Palmer. Some great music in the 70's.

Thw Average White Band and Steely Dan are 2 of my favourites from that era. Don't think many people who listens to AWB realise they're from Dundee. Another from the late 60s early 70s that I like listening to is The Doors. I'm not really into music from that era, can't be bothered with the Beatles or Rolling Stones, but The Doors I can listen to. Jim Morrison was a bit of a space cadet but some entertainer.

So many great bands from the 70s. From the Stooges and the MC5 at the start of the decade, the punk bands of 76/77, two tone and the start second wave of punk bands. Great decade for music.

Started secondary school in 1970 then it was T. Rex, Bowie, Slade, 10cc, Sparks, through heavy rock like Led Zep and Nazareth into punk/new wave and that was it, way way too many too mention there.

The 70s was a golden era...shame most of the 80s was so pish for music!

The singer is the late Alex Chilton (who had a number 1 in the USA when aged 16 as vocalist for the Box Top) But for poor management, record deals and just plain bad luck they could and should have been massive.

For Rock/Rock and Roll in the 70's I suppose it was it was a perfect storm. There were thousands of artists wanting onboard he gravy train and record companies were willing to gamble and allow a band time to grow over two or three albums even if they were hit-less during that time.

So artists had room to experiment and find some kind of individuality, which was a potent mixture if there was genuine talent -which leads to all that great music from that decade. There was also a huge amount of pesh though, as with any decade.

IMHO by the early 80's all the experimentation possible was over, the post-punk bands drained that well and after that there are very few "original" rock and roll bands, some good bands and songs through the 80's and 90's but for bands starting in those decades they are all walking around in other people's shoes.

All the cutting edge switched over to House and Hip-Hop. The same thing happened to Jazz in the late 50's early 60's and the same thing is happening now with Hip-Hop.

Found my love of music in the early 70's with the Glam rock of Slade, Sweet, Wizard and the likes before progressing onto metal and a very eclectic taste over the years.

A few mates at school were into the Northern Soul, so i could be at Clouds one night and Nicky Tams Tavern the next.

Leith town hall rocked when they played there, the atmosphere in that place was as good as any Wembley or murrayfield concert.

I saw Slade at Norbreck Castle, you'll know the place mate. Was far too near the speakers I swear I couldnt hear properly for about three days. They were brilliant. Slayed was probably about the second or third album I possessed.

Silver Springs from the same era is a fantastic song. Intended for the Rumours album it didn’t make the cut, ended up a B side but regularly performed since, and the lyric is well in keeping with the rest of the album so a shame it missed out.
