I assume a lot of Hibs fans are in a similar boat to me. Aware that Mueller is a good player, without knowing too much about him. For that reason, I asked one of my MLS writers to do a piece for the Hibs fans letting us know what he's like. Figured it would be of interest in here. Good insight to a signing that's had me excited but confused!

Have Orlando not been in a little bit of a slump? Could be he's missed out on being called up.

"This will be the first time in his life he’s played outside of America, which is an enormous difference as the style in America is much less tactical and technical, being more reliant on athleticism. At worst, though, Mueller can be a spark plug off the bench, running at tired legs to create the odd goal and assist."
He'll be fine in Scotland.

Seems to be a confident focussed young man eager to progress his career and personal development by being the very best he can be by testing himself in different environments
The write up put me in mind of a young Gareth Evans
If he can be half as good ?
Many thanks for posting

Thanks for posting.
Will he be success with us? It remains to be seen. By no means a definitive report but have seen him play 3 times in MLS games and to be honest not done anything special at all. He does enjoy a very good reputation across the pond though. I wish him the best of luck.

i thought that reading through as well. I think the guy writing the article is seriously overestimating our league.
his description of Muellers style of play sounds a lot like what we got from Jamie Mclaren when he was first here. Playing off the shoulder of defenders looking for through balls and being a bit of a poacher in the box. A different option as a second striker compared to Doidge and Nisbet. Should be good

My reply was of course made in jest
Taking a few things out of context in the write up - fast quick fringe player able to chip in with lots of assists and a few goals
Hoping the boy is a superstar
Cannae wait we need him now but also preparing myself for the need for the boy to adjust to the pace tempo and physicality of our game compared to the US
Hoping for more David Platt than Gareth Evans and I don’t mean the guy from CorrieLast edited by BILLYHIBS; 11-09-2021 at 07:07 AM.

just noticed Atlanta v Orlando is presently on freesports, HT and 2-0 Atlanta
Mueller on the bench
71' 3-0 Edin city would beat Orlando i really should flick channels this is a huge 45 mins wasted
ooh Mueller coming on, playing on the left wing this time
commentator saying this is Muellers longest goal drought in 3 years
also said heartz are ****e
FT biggest win of the season for Atlanta, 2nd heaviest defeat for OrlandoLast edited by cabbageandribs1875; 11-09-2021 at 01:24 AM.

I can't believe in this type of situation the clubs don't agree an early transfer.
You now have an unhappy player and they are getting nothing from him.Cougars!!!

Here are some tweets comparing Mueller to some of our current players:

Seems like he is a bit of a cross between Boyle and Murphy

I asked an ex work colleague who is American and pretty well up on MLS. This was his response.
“Unfortunately I don't have any info other than he was the 6th overall draft pick in the 2018 MLS draft, which is in indication he had a very good college career at the University of Wisconsin. 2 caps for the US last year and 2 goals. I have to come to Easter Road and see him in January.”

The write up tells me he will graft and do his best to learn, improve and succeed which is all supporters can ask of a player.
I have watched him play a few times since Hibs signed him on the pre contract.
In each game he has stayed wide on the right taking up good positions to receive the ball when his team have it. He also takes up clever positions in space just beyond the back post when his team are attacking up the left. I suspect he will find it harder to find space in the box so easily in the SPFL.
Folk need to give the guy time although given his confidence and positive mind set will help him adjust.Last edited by CMurdoch; 11-09-2021 at 03:26 PM.

According to livesscores.com Chris was subbed on in 41mins and subbed off in 46mins v CF Montreal, no idea why. Nani red carded in 36mins for Orlando, as well as Perea in 83, so I don’t think it will have anything to do with that. Injured maybe?

I am sure the club will have done their homework on Chris. Looks better playing through the middle rather than playing out wide. Looks to have pace. Guy wants to prove himself at a higher level and seems hungry. Must be keen would you swap Orlandos weather for Edinburghs weather.

I realise we can't play him until January but we should get him over as soon as the US season is over.
Get him training with the players and in the stand on match days so he can at least see what's in front of him.

I'm actually really excited by him. Sounds like he might be a superstar but will be a fan favourite due to his commitment and energy. Just the player we needed at the weekend off the bench.
