I have to say, a Hibs.net thread suggesting new songs is my absolute favourite kind of thread.

Saw this on twitter from the 60’s

“Pele plays over the ocean; Eusebio over the sea; but we've got a great man at Hibees, they call him Big John McNamee". To the tune of "My Bonny Lies Over The Ocean".

    Memories

There was a hit song early 60s called Big Bad John (on utube)
Lyrics in 1st verse sum up McNamee
A real tough centre half but a very good player .
In the late 60s,the hit song Might Quinn by Manfred Mann was adapted for our own Pat Quinn.
Pat,another wonderful player ,nicknamed The General"

There was no recognised "singing section"like described now.
When the Cave, concrete roof over Albion Rd End(FF) was built, that became"home"for the young Hibs Choir and assorted bampots !
Songs would grow in/from the Cave.

    Boyler went over the ocean
To play football by the Red Sea
When Rachel was having their baby
Martin came home for his tea !
