Surely they’ve got that the wrong way round? Should be finished on the day in early rounds (where non league clubs have to travel hundreds of miles on midweeks - see musselburgh last season) then when there is more time later in the season as clubs are out of Europe and only one cup competition is on the go then bring in the playoffs to try and avoid penalties.

Also we start in round 4 - still on the same date.
