TOMMY LEISHMAN
3-9-1937 to 21-7-2021
I was saddened to hear a minute’s applause for ex St Mirren Liverpool Hibernian Linfield and Stranraer player Tommy Leishman whilst watching today’s St Mirren match on TV
A driving dynamic midfield player with a great touch Tommy won the Scottish Cup with St Mirren in 1959 when they defeated Aberdeen 3-1 in the Final
He then joined Bill Shankly’s football revolution at Liverpool as one of his first signings helping them climb out of the Second Division in 1961-62_
He joined Hibernian in January 1963 teaming up with former St Mirren teammate Gerry Baker and helping Jock Stein’s HIBS side bring home the Summer Cup in August 1964 playing 49 games and scoring the all important goal against Dunfermline in the Group stages in a 1-1 draw away from home pushing the Pars into an unwanted play-off at Tynecastle
He was then on his travels again when he joined Linfield as Player Coach winning a Player of the Year Award the 1965-66 League title and leading Linfield to the quarter finals of the 1967 European Cup
He returned to Scotland to finish his career with Stranraer in 1967
Deepest sincerest condolences to family and friends
RIP

Tommy wasn't the most skilful but he was dynamic and gave 100% in every game. Strangely, he would probably be much more suited to the modern game.

Sorry to hear of Tommy's passing. Can remember him as a tough tackling wing half. Scored for us in a game v Falkirk.
I thought he was at ER for longer than the 2 seasons he was actually there.
Condolences to Tommy's family and friends.

I remember Tommy as a tough as teak tackler on the left hand side of the park.

Sad to read of the passing of Tommy Leishman.
I remember him charging up and down the pitch at ER like a runaway train and woe betide anyone who got in his way.
Tommy would probably be the first to agree that he could never be described as a silky ball player but he always gave a 100% and served Hibs well.
RIP Tommy.Thanks for the memory.
