I like Union Jacks at the Olympics, what Brit wouldn't. Anyway if an admin could delete this thread please I'm not wanting to upset wee Russ.
It'll take more than that to upset me on a Friday, Crunchie (there's definitely some sort of pun in there)

Brilliant effort by Laura Kenny. First British woman to win gold at three different Olympics.

Really hopeful for Laura Muir making the podium. Great runner, love her attitude. This is the highlight of the Games for me.

    1500m women's final coming up.

An amazing field of athletes here, about 8 or 8 must seriously fancy their chances of getting a medal. Hassan is an incredible runner and so versatile, she's great to watch.

Laura Muir with the run of her life to get Silver, absolutely delighted for her.
    Every gimmick hungry yob,

    Wow.

That was incredible. The pace through 800m was mad, slowed up a bit and then the kick away with a lap to go was brilliant. Laura Muir was great, a huge PB, and that silver ahead of Hassan is superb so delighted for her. The winner is just something else though, one of the best 1500m runners ever. She just doesn't lose in these events.

British record as well. Loved her interview, as Gaby Logan said she sounded like a different person, 10 years of hard work paying off and the joy and relief was there for all to see. Fantastic.

Qualified and now a practicing vet in that 10 years as well as training and competing in major comps. No mean feat that.

Milnathort Middle distance runner took silver with a PB in the 1500m for the GB and NI team. 😉🥈

Unlucky for GB in the mens 4 x 100m. Topper of a run on the last leg for Italy.

No really understanding how Asher-Smith was unfit to run in individual events but ok for the relay? They done well to get a bronze all the same.

    And me.
The 1500 metre races are always the highlight of the games for me. To see Laura Muir get it so right, very emotional.

That last guy in the men’s relay for Britain totally blew it, should’ve been gold.

I don't think he blew it as such. He was just outran by a better runner who gained the lost ground on the earlier legs.

    Thats how I saw it.
Their interview was great, very supportive of each other and happy to spread the credit around. Just really nice guys.

That’s not what Micheal Johnson thought along with the other pundits.

I always think it’s easier chasing down than holding on, the Italian ran a brilliant last leg.

Superb from Muir and so richly deserved after how hard she's worked for that down the years. She's right up there with Britain's top sportsmen and women.

Team GB closing in on 60 medals. Phenomenal performance.

I think he tightened up under the pressure of the Italian chasing him down.

The karate is the worst thing I’ve ever seen at the olympics. What a load of pish.
Its the 1st time Karate has been in the Olympics, it was part of Japan being the winning bidders that Karate was finally introduced. Next Olympics @ Paris have already stated that Karate will be dropped.

I’m not surprised it’s been dropped, there wasn’t even anyone breaking bricks in half or chopping wood. It was a rubbish spectacle.

I think this olympics has been the first in history were the women have outshone the men. The female athletes have been superb and in terms of excitement and performance they have performed to a far higher standard than the male athletes.

Well done to laura muir, first scottish track athlete to win an individual medal since 1988

The women's marathon looked absolutely savage. It was moved away from Tokyo to try and avoid the heat and humidity but it still looked a total slog. The winning time suggested it was a hard race to run in.

The marathon is always a strange one for me as an Olympic race in that unlike every other athletics event it's arguably not the pinnacle. Still a big deal but I reckon if pushed the elite would rather win one of the majors, particularly London or Berlin.

Bronze for Tom Daley in the diving. Probably his last Olympics. Some career.

The Chinese 2 were just a cut above. I know nothing about diving but even with an untrained eye you can see they are better than everyone else. The guy who was 2nd had a proper meltdown when he was pipped with the last dive. Looked like he was all set to batter his coach.

Did we have 2 winners that year? Liz McColgan being the obvious one, but I'm thinking Yvonne Murray too (might have been earlier).

With the medals left up for winning, do we have much chance of overtaking Japan in the leader board?

Murray was a bronze in Seoul in the 3000m.

Cheers. Vaguely recollect it but wasn't sure if I was confusing it with a Commonwealth Games medal.
