Putting the decision aside for a second it's those situations where I want to see Hanlon more involved. Not suggesting it would change the decision but I expect my captain and and around his players in and around the ref at those times.

I've defended the decision to make Hanlon captain, but I think you're right here.

Hanlon should be stepping up and trying to referee the game himself, if the referee is going to be this weak, inconsistent and incompetent.
