The Obelisco is the place to be now by the looks of it!

Glad the GOAT got his international trophy. You could see how much it meant to him at the final whistle.

Rodrigo De Paul was the best player on the park for me, he was immense throughout.

What he spent the whole time fouling Neymar. Brasil deserved at least a draw and in the second half really took the game to Argentina who were cynical foulers and time wasters. Very anti football.

Great to see Messi win an international tournament. Think it's pretty clear he's the best Argentine of all time now.

Neither of these two South American giants get near there European counterparts at next years World Cup on that showing
    Would disagree.

I don’t think there is any key standout international teams right now. Like the Euros - several teams could easily win the World Cup.

Argentina team isn’t the best they have had for the last few years but they played as a team hence the win.

Fantastic for Messi and well deserved.

Lots of sport on today but worth a watch for the tackles and fouls alone - ripped shorts / bloody socks and while it was stop start it was pretty funny entertainment at times.

I agree. He is well ahead. You don't score an extra 400 goals because pitches and team mates are better. 400 ****ing goals. The difference is bigger than the number Maradona scored.

    Clubs goals

    Messi 683
    Maradona 310

    International goals

    Messi 76
    Maradona 34

Aye, but who scored the best goal ever against England 😉

Did England have a dubious goal scored against them?

I thought the commentators would just brush over that.

    Strange.

Rising like a butterfly above Shilton to head the ball, you must hand it to him, a true athlete. Aye there was the other fluke that he scored as well. 😉

Not even close? That's just ridiculous. You can make an argument that Maradona was the best ever, I don't think he is but I know plenty people do, but to suggest Messi isn't even close to him is just plain wrong.

Messi is either the best player of all time or very very close to being so.

Peles actual record is nothing like that.

His record that he claims is an absolute nonsense.

Messi isn’t even the best player of his generation, he has remained in his comfort zone banging in goals against average teams in Spain. Messi has never come close to matching what Maradona did for his country and I’d imagine that if there was a poll in Argentina Maradona would win it hands down. Messi is a genius, but Maradona was the greatest.

The old comfort zone of a top league and a top team. Very naive if you think the current Barcelona side is a comfort zone for anyone.

You have a clear favourite, but you're argument isn't based on any real facts.

Even if Messi is the second best player of this generation, he's better than Maradona.

Also, average teams? Willing to bet his record against Big sides and great teams is also significantly better than Maradona. Most goals in classicos, 2nd most CL goals etc. He wins every head to head.

Maradona had a great World Cup in 86. Messi has just won the Copa as top scorer, assister and best player. No one has ever done that at a major tournament

Look up Wiki if you don’t believe me but I suppose he could just make it up himself on there

I prefer to go with the official figures 775 and 75 which are still ahead of Messi and Maradona whichever way you might want to look at it

    GOAT imho

I reckon Pele, Maradona and Messi are close to the best players ever to have played the game.
Same goes for Stanton, McGinn, Dalglish, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Maldini, Charlton and Best. And both the Ronaldos, Viera, Petit, Pires, Henry and Roy Keane.
The rest of you need a wee set of Top Trumps cards to settle your spats.

    Edit
And Zidane was probably the most complete player I was lucky enough to ever see in the flesh, even including all of the above.

His Wikipedia suggests he scored 709 in 766 appearances at club level with the vast majority of them being scored in a regional tournament with teams from Sao Paolo.

He didn’t fair nearly as well when he played in the proper top tier of Brazilian football where his goals record dropped to about a goal every 1.7 games.

Calling it a regional tournament doesn’t really reflect the high standard - that was just the way it was set up.

His record when he came to play the top European teams of the time is also excellent.

A quick google of the greatest player ever to play the game and the majority of professional footballers and managers or pundits are saying Leo.

I think his period between 2008-2012 was the highest level of play ever seen in the game by anyone by a considerable difference.

    WTF!

Scored 643 goals for Santos in 660 appearances 77 goals in 92 for Brazil

In 1958 at the age of 17 he scored a hat-trick versus France in the World Cup Semi Final and a double in the World Cup Final versus Sweden

Is that a high enough standard for you?
