Schmeichel saves that any other day of the week.

Tbf I think the vast majority of people defending the coverage have put their case forward well and given compelling reasons for why they think the way they do. I like to think those of us who criticised the coverage did likewise. 1 or 2 have lowered the tone a bit but that's always going to happen, for the most part it's been a frank but respectful exchange of views.

It's a situation hardly any of us have ever witnessed before and something so emotive will always provoke a reaction. I wouldn't like to have been calling the shots, it's easy for me to snipe from the sidelines. Gary Lineker apologised for any distress caused, that should be the end of things.
    Absolutely.
In situations like this, 3 football events immediately spring to mind. Hillsborough, Heysel and Bradford.
All horrific events in their own right but they were all covered “ live “ and we sat (well those old enough on here) and watched them unfold before our very eyes. This afternoon’s sad occurrence was no different in my eyes. Some will agree, others won’t but on this occasion the fact that Eriksen is stable and alert is all that matters.

Agree with that. TV cameras follow serious injuries all the time, including serious head knocks, usually ending in the player making a full recovery to everyone's relief. The difference this time is CPR ! The minute the BBC producer saw this was the point to cut away an accept there is nothing normal about this. The images of Eriksen's wife were also in poor taste. That was pure voyeurism, nothing to do with the incident itself and all to build the horror of the moment.

BBC have a tough job, but they failed the decency test this time.
The BBC have no control over the pictures being fed through other than to switch off completely. The decision to show the CPR is made locally and broadcast to all countries buying the game.

That is as soft a penalty as you will ever see.

We are all much more attuned to mental health and psychological trauma these days, which is obviously positive, but…

Sometimes it is best just to get on with things.
Most of the time it's not. The come down from something like this will hit them hard. Probably tonight. I'm absolutely shocked they are playing tonight.

Shocking decision by the referee but justice prevailed.

Easiest penalty save that keeper will ever have. Nevinesque.

The award or the attempt at goal?

Yup. No idea how that's not offside.

Couldn't believe it last night when they gave an Italian player offside straight from a corner 😳

Why? He was attacking side of the ball with only the goalie possibly inline

Really? It was explained by the ref on commentary. An deliberate attempt was made by the defender to play the ball, meaning Lukaku couldn't be offside.

That’s fine, but the average football fan like me, hasn’t a scooby about the rules

No offense, but that is why you listen to the commentary where they have a ex professional referee explain these things.

That rule has been around as long as I can remember.

Denmark should have won by 2-3 goals , but if they had got a point as a result of that penalty, it would have been a complete travesty. How the VAR judges didn’t pick that up………they should be able to cancel a penalty, just as much as award one

They are able to do that. They just deemed there to be contact.

I agree it was soft, but you see fouls for that all the time. About 10 times a game defenders go down under less contact when a forward is chasing them down.

The angle I saw from behind the goal showed absolutely no contact at the point the player went down , absolutely shocking decision

it was obvious he was offside, stupid of his teammate to play the ball back to him

he wasn’t offside straight from the corner, he played it a couple of yards to his teammate who immediately played it back (which kind of rendered the initial kick a bit pointless), leaving the corner taker in an offside position as there weren’t 2 players between him and the goal line

I think someone at ITV has gone mad with their studio set! It's very sci-fi and way over the top 🤣

That was a nasty collision earlier that saw the Belgian guy going off with a suspected fractured eye-socket. Hope he's alright!

Incidentally, Simon Kjaer deserves some special kind of recognition for his reaction tonight. Stopped Eriksen swallowing his tongue, started CPR, got him into position for the paramedics coming on, instructed the team to form a shield around him and then comforted his wife as she came pitchside. Not all heroes wear capes.
Madness, as you know, is a lot like gravity. All it takes is a little push.

It still shouldn't have been a penalty.
