    Long lasting appliances

Iíve had my washing machine for 14 years, Iíve been paying around £15 a month for the whole time Iíve owned it for a maintenance plan. Itís only broken down once in that time, Iíd have replaced it by now if it wasnít for the fact that Iíve paid enough to buy about 3 washing machines and theyíll replace it if it canít be fixed. I got a new kitchen a couple of years ago and the machine was the only thing I didnít replace, itís going to last forever I think.
Have any of you got any long lasting appliances?

I've had my Delonghi coffee machine for over 10 years now and it's never let me down (cue it packing in now I've written this), before that I had a Krups and a Siemens, neither of them lasted much longer than the guarantee.

10 years for a coffee machine must be world record territory, mines break before I take them out of the box.

    You've paid £15 a month for 14 years? Seriously?

    That's £2300!

Why? You're not superstitious about washing machines are you?

I've never bought a maintenance contract or extended guarantee for anything and I can't remember being unhappy with anything breaking too early.

TVs from Richer Sounds come with a 6 year guarantee as do the majority of their products. John Lewis extends guarantees on a lot of stuff too so if you stuck the £15 in a savings account, you'd have enough to buy a brand new machine by the time the guarantee runs out.

I've just replaced my VAX vacuum cleaner because my wife dropped it and a wheel has since disintegrated. Miele one arrived today, it sucks! Nearly lifted the carpet off the floor!!!!

My wife and I received a Kenwood electric tin opener as a wedding gift almost 22 years ago and it's still going strong - which is more than can said for either of us!

I got given a fridge/freezer in 1998 that was about 15 years old and gave it away when utility room was done up 10 years ago. Last I heard it was still going strong.

I bought my microwave about 17 years ago.

    It's still heating plates perfectly.

I canít totally verify this but we were told that the washer dryer that was in my house when we bought it was the one put in when the house was built in 2003.

The dryer part has just gone in the last couple of months.

I need to work on a mechanism that drops the records onto the record player, but I have a record player from the late fifties that I absolutely adore.

My Dad bought a Black and Decker drill with Embassy coupons must be about 50 years ago, I have it now. We've had to replace contact brushes a couple of times but it's still my go to drill for heavy duty drilling.

We bought a zanussi fridge when we got married in 1990, itís been used continuously since then and still works perfectly (it has been a beer fridge in the garage since about 2005)

Got a tumble drier that left Edinburgh with us in 1985, we bought it in 1983. Three moves later and still going strong.

    It'll be at my funeral.

Between it and the washing machine. I'm popular with both.
