    Harry Cochrane

Just read that he has turned down a new contract and will leave Hearts in June.

Do you think it would be worth a gamble to give him a contract? Kid had talent when he was young but was destroyed by Avril Levein.

Question is would he be worth a theoretical punt or are you better sticking with say Fraser Murray who has had a decent season with Dunfermline.

I think we should be aiming higher than either of them. Just my opinion.

A fairly low risk punt just to annoy them.

**** him. Thought he was the big man after he scored vs Celtic and tried to do mcginn in the derby at Easter road. Boy is also pish, no sure I want a boy who’s no exactly excelled at montrose

Nope, big fanfare based in the fact he was so young but has shown nothing since to suggest he will be a top level player. On loan at Brechin or someplace like that I believe. Probably about his level. File with all the other jambo wonder kids to fail.

Ah yes, let’s sign a guy who’s not done anything of note in *checks notes* League 1 this season? That’ll show them!

If he was anywhere near close to being worth a punt at Hibs then he’d have been getting some form of game time at Hearts this season as a chance to prove he was worth a new contract.

Thanks but no thanks. He’s not setting the grass alight at the moment and his claim to fame is a goal against Celtic. Besides, he was bigged up by the biglies as their new saviour of all things football and huge transfer fees.

Our kids a developing out on loan anyway.

Don't see a place for him in the squad atm. He looked decent when he first came on the scene but his hip high challenge on SJM really put me off him. Like others have said he has done nothing of note in league 1 to show we should sign him. If the gorgie pinks have given him a contract to sign it would mean anyone who signs him would be due them a development fee, unlike JC or Josh Doig.

He'll probably be playing non league soon enough and no doubt we will be reading an article in 10 years time where he tells his tale to BAnderson about what might have been.

I'd take a punt on him.

I wonder if he has something lined up given that he's KBed Hearts.

Apart from his shocking lunge at SJM, he did look pretty good when he broke into their team, albeit he was vastly over-hyped and over used as per usual with them.

I never really got the hype about him.

He was quite neat and tidy and bustled about a bit but there wasn't a lot more than that. I suppose he must have had something if he was playing 1st team football at 16 but he clearly hasn't kicked on.

It's not an area we have a real pressing need and if we did I'd want someone better than Cochrane.

He must have, surely. Nobody would turn down a contract with a newly-established top flight club?

  15. #14
He would cost a development fee to Hearts and I’d rather not give them a penny for someone who hasn’t kicked on in 3 years.

Also quite nice to see the McGinn to West Ham thread just below this one. The guy who tried to end JM's career is currently in League 1 and McGinn is the subject of £40m transfer.

    Ironic.

So Barcelona will be getting him on a free?

Yup. He’s absolutely jobbies. He’ll end up at an Edinburgh City or something soon enough, not get much game time there either and then drop down to a Spartans/Linlithgow Rose or something along those lines.

Yep - clearly decent for his age but I didn’t think he was the best of the young ones breaking through for them at the time. If he’s not done anything of note since trying to decapitate McGinn then I’d have no interest in going near the lad.

Surely £5 would be enough for the "development" fee, poor lad has hardly developed at the wongadome, needs a better club to improve

He basically assaulted opponents every time he played and the referees rarely, if ever, punished him for it. Has he learned how to tackle properly yet?

As they are top rated for 'their' training facility, I think it is £60k for each year he's been at the club until he is 24? That is from memory so probably wrong!! He's been with them since 2014 so 7 X 60k is £420k, but I agree £5 is probably too much given how he's been handled.

I wouldnt take him at Hibs but thought he was very harshly treated by Hearts. Well when I say Hearts I mean Levein. Thrown in the deep end when he was struggling for players then turfed aside when older players returned.

I think there’s talent there if he’s managed the right way. I wouldn’t be disappointed if JR decided to give him a chance here. Not too much money wasted if it didnt work out.

    it won’t happen anyway.

I never thought he looked that impressive. Usually when a young player is going to go far in football they make an immediate impact. When Scott Brown broke though you could tell within 60 seconds he was a player.

That's what they do. Fill their youths heads full of rubbish about being "the best" and burn them out or get them injured playing too many games.

Hickey did well to get away asap.

Haha I can't believe this question is being raised, he had his day in the limelight trying to crunch McGinn, will probably be the highlight of his career

Where we have Man Utd and the like interested in our sixteen year olds, have the likes of Josh Doig (ironically) attracting the attention of Leicester and Arsenal and have brought through players like Porteous, Hanlon, Stevenson and more who have been a regular part of our squad for a while, Hearts seem to have a track record of bringing in a young player, burning them out and then they amount to nothing (Hickey aside).

Well other than the ones like Cummings who we rescue just in time, repair them and get them back to the top of their game.......
