Thread: Morais

  1. #1

    Morais

See our former player Filipe Morais was the unfortunate victim of a head butt from a team mate at Grimsby, as the teams left the pitch at half time. The guy was red carded and his career at the club is now in doubt. Possibly a future manager of Hearts?

    Filipe ...

Did he not also get into bother outside a casino on York Place?

    Anyone head butting - seriously?

I remember him scoring his first (and only?) goal for us and doing a ‘typing! celebration supposedly to mock his online critics

I remember him signing and thinking it was a great move, don’t think the excitement took long to dwindle

I thought that on his day he was a cracking player.

It wasn't his day very often, which was frustrating, but overall I quite liked him.

I mind he came on as a sub in a pre-season friendly at Easter Road against an English club, can't remember which, when he was on trial and had a great run and shot which hit the bar. Collins signed him shortly afterwards, which I was delighted about as I was sure he was going to be brilliant, but sadly that was the high point of his Hibs career.

Wonder if he could still do a job... Could get him, Shaw, Bartley, Riordan and Dylan back what a team we'd have

In all seriousness though, folk sticking the nut? What a clown.

I’m sure he started. Played a blinder and Collins subbed him at half time presumably hiding him from potential suitors. He signed him and he was absolutely gash. I do remember the typing celebration.

The goal I recall was in the League Cup match at Hampden in 2-1 win against Queens Park.

    It really is.

I see Clayton Donaldson there up front with Benji, he’s playing as a #10 now for Bradford and doing well I hear. Had a decent career in the end...

A few terrific players in there from a better era surrounded by absolute dross. Collins signed some diddys.

He had a knack for signing folk up and then never using them, like he realised his mistake in their first week of training.

He’s had a very decent career, although something of a journeyman.

Which caused problems for Mixu, Yogi, Calderwood, etc. as it started a domino effect of having to change a huge part of the squad every summer due to dross that had to be signed on a shoestring due to Collins' expensive duds.

Who was the boy we got on loan from Genoa - Pinau (sp?) boy never kicked a ball for us iirc? Mind boggling.

The goal celebration was definitely at ER. He ran over right in front of where I sit. It’s almost as if he knew where I was.😂😂😂

That was certainly one of them. Same with Joneleit and Patrick Noubissié

But that midfield Chisholm Morais Kerr. (I’m counting Shiels as a withdrawn forward supporting the two strikers). You’d be doing well to come up with a more depressing three. Kroos Casemiro Modric it ain’t.

Scored against Morton in a 4-3 LC defeat IIRC. That was about it though.

I think he scored an equaliser against the Yams (which was somewhat undercelebrated by the fans as I recall because we desperately wanted to beat them) - but was barely seen again after that

Edit - my mistake - Pinau never scored in the league for us. Who the hell am I thinking of??? Black player - striker - similar era.

Edit Edit - Ricardo Vaz Te is who I was thinking of - only about 4 years and 3managers out - ah well.

Mixu got plenty to spend - Nish and Rankin cost money the January after Collins left, and Bamba and Riordan the following season. The likes of Rosa, Szamoltukski and Johanssen would have been on good money.

Mixu made his own problems - brought in some quality but also some *****, and made a major error in letting Sheils go. Probably a bit hasty letting Donaldson go so quickly as well.

Yogi also got to bring in the likes of Stokes and Miller, and had us with four first team squad goalkeepers. I think by the time Calderwood came in the funds were very low certainly. Not helped by the fact that he was a ***** manager.

Fine, so Collins didn't waste a shipload of money and set us back years?

I remember being in the press room after a game at ER and word came through that the player being put forward for interview was Filipe Morais. One of the hacks asked if Morais could speak English and I confess I s******ed when David Hardie replied 'I expect so, he's from London'
    This is how it feels

Who did he sign that was really expensive?

His signing record wasn’t good certainly, but he didn’t sign that many players, and I think almost everyone that he signed was moved on quickly. Possibly required some paying off certainly, but I fail to see how he set us back years.

As I said, our next two managers had very healthy transfer funds.
