My overriding memory of Morais is 1. Him looking amazing in the game he played as a trialist (Middlesbrough at home?) and then being pretty average afterward, 2. The "typing" celebration as mentioned, and 3. A derby defeat at Tynecastle which pretty much consisted entirely of him trying and failing to get past Jose Goncalves.

Who did he sign that was really expensive?

His signing record wasn’t very good certainly, but he didn’t sign that many players, and I think almost everyone that he signed was moved on quickly. Possibly required some paying off certainly, but I fail to see how he set us back years.

As I said, our next two managers had very healthy transfer funds.
O'Brien & Makalambay certainly weren't cheap. The main problem however is that he filled the squad with total crap which set us on a cycle of a huge turnover of players every season right up until we were relegated under Butcher and more or less started from scratch.

I think he scored an equaliser against the Yams (which was somewhat undercelebrated by the fans as I recall because we desperately wanted to beat them) - but was barely seen again after that

Edit - my mistake - Pinau never scored in the league for us. Who the hell am I thinking of??? Black player - striker - similar era.
I can't think of any scenario in which we'd under-celebrate a derby equaliser.

I don’t disagree with much of that, but there were several other managers involved in that cycle. I don’t think it’s at all fair to say that Collins personally set us back years - he had one bad transfer window.

Weighed against the positives of his short time as manager, I can live with it.

He only had 2 transfer windows.

OK, Brown & Thomson were sold, but compare the squad that Collins inherited and won the cup with to the pile of crap he left for Mixu.

The guy set us back years.

I’m aware of that. And I don’t think he signed anyone at all in the other one.

Anyway, I really don’t have the inclination to argue any further. Collins was far from perfect, but delivered many good moments as Hibs manager - and one truly great one.

Those memories are of far more value to me than those of a few questionable signings.

Vaz Te's goal put us 2-1 up with about 10 or 15 mins to go against 10 man Hearts. The fans were going wild when it went in, def wasnt under celebrated. Liam Miller had scored our equaliser from the spot after Zaliaukus had been sent off (RIP both of them)

In typical Hibs fashion we switched off at a late free kick and that wee Northern Irish fud of a striker scored for them to make it 2-2.

    Canny mind his name.

    It really is.

I see Clayton Donaldson there up front with Benji, he’s playing as a #10 now for Bradford and doing well I hear. Had a decent career in the end...
Donaldson was awful at Bolton in recent years. And I mean AWFUL.

Morais on the other hand was almost singlehandedly responsible for getting promotion from League One in 2017/18. Think he went on a run of eight games in a row where he provided at least one assist. Provided all four in one game away to Gillingham.

Bradford my English team, load of my mates from when I lived down there are season ticket holders, so I’ve been to see Bradford a fair amount.

They’re no my happy with Donaldson, high earner and underperforming this season.

I hold Petrie far more responsible for the downward spiral and aimlessly churning through managers and players than Collins. Collins inherited a very good squad, won a cup with it and played an important part in the fees we got for Brown & Thomson as well as playing his part in us building East Mains. He left a poor squad for the next man. I don’t see anything unique in there that hampered the next 3 managers.

I remember that game well. We were on a run of like 6 or 7 without a win against them and that was the first time in ages we'd taken the LEAD let alone won. Hammered 10 man Hearts for a good 40-50 minutes, missing gilt-edged chances, finally get one and they run up the park and score an equaliser within three minutes. We then missed another two for good measure near the end.

Can't remember being much angrier than that after a derby tbh.

Yeah that's the one although he's from the Republic of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland.

Well remembered - yes I was wrong and that was how it panned out.
I remember seeing Vaz Te after the game with his agent or someone when I was standing outside the shop - all the Hibbies to a man were totally pissed off - including me - because we had thrown away the win - and so much so that noone seemed to even notice our new goalscorer and I remember thinking Vaz Te looked a bit crestfallen - possibly at being all but ignored after scoring on his debut. That's where the "under celebrated" memory comes from. I don't think he really understood just how gutted everyone was.

I remember watching Vaz Te in a friendly after he signed I think, and he looked talented with just the way he controlled the ball and moved with it. I was gutted we never kept him after that half a season but he clearly needed a club to help get him fit before he went somewhere else in England. His goal return doesn't look outstanding but I think anyone who watched him on the ball could tell there was a really good player in there and I wasn't surprised to see how well he did after leaving us.

Hard to have any sympathy for someone that’s been done for volleying someone in the head
