He's another one who sells his soul to the BBC, twice now he been slagging of Martin Boyle, once against Inverness in the cup last year when it was a stone wall pen and again last weekend.
He kept saying he was his own man but when tickled by the BBC jambo producers he, like all the rest take the money to put down our team and our players.
If that's what he prepare to say against his mate wait till they really work on him! Like McFadden who was 'glad' we missed a penalty (v Hamilton).
Marvin? The guy who said just because it wasn't a pen doesn't mean it's a dive?

I’m presuming the 3-1 game? Great performance that day. Could have been 4-0 at one point had Daz’s goal not been incorrectly ruled out.
Slight hazy memory but I was sure Daz’s header would have made it 4-1? Agree with everything else, we absolutely battered them. Should have been 7 or 8. We never seem to give them the pounding they deserve, even 6-2 should have been double figures

    Paul Slane.

Was a youth at Motherwell, went to Celtic, got binned with a pay out that was supposed to be used to pay for surgery, *****ed it up the wall on a session in Amsterdam and retired.
It's a shame as when it was Si Ferry interviewing players, it was quite an interesting channel as it was all about the guest.

    Now it's:

What daft outfit is Paul Slane going to wear this time
Half an hour of chatting about nothing in particular between each other
Kevin Kyle attempts to be more charismatic than the table in front of him and fails
    Some football chat*

*Worth noting that if Hibs signed Messi, Haaland, Ronaldo, Aguero and Tierney on free transfers, the majority of the talk would be "So how do you think Rangers and Celtic are going to do this weekend".

Totally agree with a few posters above. It used to actually be a good watch and they'd talk about the other teams. Now it's just all about old firm.

Used to think Derek Ferguson was fine as well. Until I realised he just says almost exactly the same thing every week. 'he's a player, so he is' 'they're a team, so they ur'

    Went right off it recently.

I don't know what it's like normally, but I enjoyed that.

For me neither Ferry nor Slane tried to steal the show and I though that they were both quite funny when they did add something. Above all they let Marv have his say.

    Great interview.

The hosts can get a wee bit silly but it's far more entertaining and insightful than mainstream media's coverage.

Most interesting Hibs related points from marv for me were.

    - Praise for the hibs setup with Mathie in as dof
    - insight into Lennon (pretty much exactly what we thought was happening)
    - his support of Hecky as a top top coach
    - story re Boyle passed out on George st

It astounds me that anyone could call Lewis Stevenson "unprofessional".

Also telling that the meeting that was overheard and led to the end of that particular chapter was described as a "four out of ten".

There may be some footballers who react to that - Marvin being one of them - but that's not the sort of atmosphere I want at Hibs. Considering our setup was sold to Marvin as one that if the manager resigns then there's still a strong team there, the hassle we had in getting someone to take the games after he'd left sounds like that structure had failed or we had ignored the structure we'd set up.

Also makes me think that Mathie deserves a lot of credit for the work in turning us round post relegation because I still rate Stubbs highly as a manager and as a Hibs legend but also him not pulling Marvin aside to say that he's being dropped for the final isn't great. To be able to sell Hibs to a player who was genuinely thinking about leaving the game and get the fire back in his belly is excellent work. Probably why we got such a good team in a lower league.

    Fair comment there

I dont know if its common knowledge, but i would not think it wise to clipe on Boyle being drunk and in lying in a shop doorway in George Street.
Who needs enemies, if you have pals like Marvin.!!

My brother, in later years told me hair raising tales about some he played alongside.
But that mostly stayed in house at the time ,particularly when said players where still making a living kicking a football

He said: “There was a time before we played Hearts. It was five minutes before kick-off and he tells us all to take our shirts off.

“He tells us to turn our shirts around so we’re facing the badge. And he says look at that badge and know what that means to the people out there. Go and win the game for them. And if you can’t win the game for them, win the game for your family.

“Then he tells us to turn our shirts over, so mine will say Bartley, and he says and there’s your family name. Every time you’re feeling tired, think about your family at home watching you.

“And then he says if that’s not enough, go to the mirror and win it for the person looking back at you.

“They could have had as many players as they wanted that day, we were ready for war.”

We did an interview with Marvin last year, there’s a huge focus on his time at Hibs - some immense bits in it, if you’re wanting more:

    https://anchor.fm/longbangers/episod...Bartley-eblfne

Note : there is a wee issue with the sound where Marvin’s a little out of sync.

Class interview. Loved hearing about Lenny’s first team meeting regarding getting promoted. And The pre derby speech 👏🏼👏🏼

I wonder what derby it was?
Hopefully not one of the Tynecastle
ones, or it didn't have much effect.

Not a show I'm particularly familiar with & don't think much of the hosts, guy in the hat in particular offered nothing. But thanks to Marvin a really good watch to be fair

    I really enjoyed that.

Slaney doesn't offer much but he doesn't ruin it. They both let Bartley speak and the worst sort of interview is when the interviewer wants to make it all about them.

    Loved it tbh.

Bartley's a good lad and seems to me to have his head screwed on.

Was weird to me that he names Cummings in the punching story but wouldn’t name the other player he was arguing with.

It made me think it’s someone that’s doing well for themselves and wouldn’t want that story coming out like McGinn. I can imagine him being on the same table as Boyle, Cummings, Stokes etc.

That or someone like Daz who would get fed up and Bartley wouldn’t want to make him look bad by sharing the story.

If it was Stokes etc he would have just said Imo.

Never know though it could be Absolutley anyone and Marvin spoke to them before hand and they said not to say his name.

They've Done a few with ex Hibs players. All really interesting in their own way. Highly recommend.
(Added bonus is that the twat in the hat isn't in most of them).

Not a lot of love for Paul Slane on this thread. I find him an endearing guy on these shows with a good self-depricating sense of humour.
