Why would you love to see Daz’s stats if “stats mean diddly squat”?

The stats are available if you want them. To compare Daz and Hanlon.
Daz has been outstanding, way better than Hanlon imo, at 6.99 I think I'd be correct in saying stats mean diddly squat.

When it suits you, they mean diddly squat.

Daz hasn’t been better than Hanlon this season.

He's played 6 full games, and he's had some excellent performances when called upon this season. But you have clearly been shown why statistically Hanlon has been our best defender this season and one of the best in the league. It doesnt matter what you or I think. Thats not what the thread is about.

You can manipulate stats any way you want to, I happen to think Daz has been outstanding when played this season, better than Hanlon or Porteous, it's only my opinion my friend.

Well, I'm glad you are nowhere near picking the team. :)

Successful football teams these days use a large chunk of stats and "intuition" to pick players.

Stats meaning "diddly squat" in top level sport is just not true.

Fair enough mate. I love Darren Mcgregor! Wish he was a few years younger he’d be playing every week.

I’d agree. Although very limited in numbers, McGregors performances have been the best of all defenders in our squad imo.

I’d have Daz and Hanlon at CB in a heartbeat.

Thing is with things like this though it's not picking the best players in the league.

Hanlon’s had a very good season. My entirely subjective opinion but interesting that it seems to be borne out by facts.

When you play as many games as he does there will be mistakes along the way. McGregor was very good when he came into the side but IMO wasn’t great in the Motherwell game. That single game will have skewed his stats, as happens with smaller sample sizes (ie McGregor having played many fewer games than Hanlon).

Hanlon and Gogic are possibly our two main men right now and their effectiveness in their roles will be going a long way towards us having earned ourselves our decent league position.

Is there a SPFL or Football Wrters team of the year in Scotland? Serious question, how many Players hvae we had in it say over last 20 years? Anyone know?
There's a Football Writers Player of the Year which I think was the original and has been obviously running the longest. I think they do a team as well

There is the Players Team of the Year, where players cast votes for team, player and young player. Can't vote for players of their own club.

    Not sure about SPFL.

For a team of the year I think the only Hibs player I would have in it would be Martin Boyle, Nisbet and Doig have done really well but they are up against it with Old Firm players in their positions that have done better.

Without googling we have had a few over the last 20 years. At a guess O'Connor, Riordan, Fletcher, Brown, Thomson, Griffiths, Stokes, McGinn, McGeouch.

I think Daz has been outstanding too in the games he played, came in at a time when we were wobbling and steadied the ship.

As to whether he's been better than Hanlon or Porteous not in my opinion, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

My reasoning would be the number of games played by each of the three players tells its own story.

They mean so little that every club in the world uses them extensively.

Newall was also in this XI, ahead of Odoffin, until very recently.

If we keep playing how we played the other night, good chance he'll overtake him again.

    Interesting stuff.

I quite like the Players awards as they aren't biased as certain football journalists can be.

Really like Siegrist. Would my complain if he was Rocky’s replacement.

had a quick look at what attacking midfielders weren't in the XI, but were ahead of Boyle based on their ranking (which is by no means a perfect metric).

And Turnball, Roofe, Wotherspoon, Hagi were all rated higher than Boyle for their performances this season.

Quite surprising as 11 goals and 5 assists is much better than any other winger in the league this year. Some random stat like number of times dispossessed, or passing accuracy, must be bringing his rating down compared to those players listed. He also had a few very poor games, which might bring down his overall rating.

He'd probably be the right winger in my team of the season, even accounting for the several poor runs of form he had, based on his end product alone.

I would rather have Boyle over Kent in the Hibs team.

Without looking - Martin Boyle, Paul Hanlon, Joe Newall and Kevin Nisbet would all be in with a shout.

EDIT - Hanlon is our man - well done Paul!
It was always going to be dominated by Rangers but honestly surprised there's no room for Boyle in there - who gets my vote as our player of the season.

Daz's stats are shown in the same report .... https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/320/...land-Hibernian

On the head to head Hanlon wins on every stat listed.

NB - agree that stats don't tell the full story. I would give Boyle my personal player of the season so far - squeezing home in front of Newell and Hanlon in that order - but he only comes in 10th according to their analysis.

Daz has been great for us when called upon apart from the recent defeat vs Motherwell when he had a bit of a mare against their big striker and was correctly subbed. Hanlon has been an ever present and has been a stalwart in a successful defence. Sure he's made the odd error but has more than made up for them over the piece and has been a superb captain for us as to boot (all IMO naturally)

    Usual suspects.

A Hibs player gets picked for a team of the season and the knockers choose to criticise rather than be happy for the player.

Based on stats it is a relevant selection, I take it Siegrist gets the nod over Mcgregor as he makes more saves.
Well done Scoopyboy . Stats don't lie.
