There was something on the discovery channel last night about metal detecting and how a guy in Staffordshire had found £10m of gold and treasure in a farmers field, think you need to ask farmers permission first.

I’ve always fancied doing it, apparently the farmers are happy for you to do it because they get half of anything found.

Have a Google for the "Scottish Detector Club", they meet in Edinburgh. They'll help with all the legal advice including permissions & insurance etc.
