Auchterarder is well worth a visit imo. Not too long but a very good test of golf at the same time. Its next door to the Gleneagles courses and has the same heathland appearance but with sensibly priced green fees. Good clubhouse facilities is an added bonus. I suspect that their Open Tournaments will already be fully subscribed for the forthcoming season so you may have to settle for a casual round of golf.
Agree re Auchterarder. One of my favourites and I am playing there twice in May in opens.

Others I have played last year and enjoyed are West Lothian, Crail, Aberdour, Dunbar, Longniddry and Baberton.

Planning on playing a few Opens this coming season.

Already booked Cardross, Lanark and Carnwath and looking at Haddington too. All recommendations welcome

Also got the New & Jubilee booked in the coming weeks for a bit fun
I use this Dave. As you know I’ve been known for an away day or two

Its free but I pay the yearly fee and it gives you a calendar option to search for any given day.
    Good luck.

I’m staying within walking distance of West Lothian GC for a few weeks so plan to give it a go.

Dunbar next Saturday as down there for a wedding.

I might when I'm up. I'm always looking to play new courses and alongside new players to develop my game. I bring my clubs when I'm home for more than a day or 2 so hopefully we'll get a round in if you're keen.

Played Pumpherston today for the first time. Course was in good condition, impressed
I believe they’ve got a new greenkeeper in as of this season and he’s made a lot of changes. I forget which ‘decent’ course it was he’s come from but my mate who is a member there was fairly excited about the guy coming in and what he’s be doing for the course.

It’s a course I enjoy anyway, but 16 gets me every time.

    If ****ing only 😁

I know the 2nd is the one feared by members, but that water on 16th is what gives me nightmares. And that’s without the jakies on the green.

It’s time to get a few reps in. Haven’t had a club in my hand since early November.
I’ll ensconce myself on the Range up at Kingsfield until they get off the mats at Harburn.
Due a visit to Kingsbarns mid April so better get the finger out.

I would quite like a game at Ladybank if you don't mind a 15 handicapper stinking the place up?

Was up at Elie last week, the greens are just ridiculous.

Kingsfield? I’m going to go tomorrow to practice a bit more the adjustments from my lesson.

Shot an 88 at Deer Park yesterday although it’s still playing way shorter at the moment with winter tees.

I played there on Saturday as well.

I agree , the course is in great nick for mid March, and to be honest, I didn't notice any wind at all!

We started just after 9am so I'm presuming the wind must have got up in the afternoon.

Yeah we never tee’d off until 12.30 wind kicked in at the far point of the course!

Acquired a new driver today so trip to the range in the next couple of days before its let loose on a course.

New season and fresh hopes spring eternal.

Good luck with the new Big Chief. 👍

Proposal to introduce balls which can't fly so far at the Open by 2026.

Thoughts? It's presumably not long before 400-yard drives become perfectly feasible for top players so a lot of courses simply won't present any sort of challenge.

Happy with a 87 at Deer Park yesterday.

Still playing short as it’s still in a semi winter mode so will be back to reality once it changes!

New driver is decent but off the tee is still my weak point another lesson in a couple of weeks.
