I just received this reply, i was the first name, although it makes no odds if the opponent is not in the country.

And only yesterday i found out the same people involved allowed an extention to the ladies comp this season.

Thank you for your patience, I have been around other hotels in the region this week and needed to speak to the team at Blackpool as to the reasons for what has happened.


I believe that this captain has also been involved in the decision that has been made.


We do unfortunately have to set deadlines for the games that were published back in April/May of when each round/game had to be played.


I can only sincerely apologise that on this occasion it has meant that the game hasn't been played in time, can I check if a conversation took place between the two of you if you could agree that one or the other proceeded to the next round under the circumstances?


We do try and organise as many social competitions as possible but do leave this where we can in the hands of the membership to organise the matches themselves.


I will ensure that Richard does speak to the team to ensure that communication is clearer as it is disappointing to read that you were not informed of the consequences of the game not being played before the end of August.


The last thing we want is a disappointed member. I would therefore as a gesture of goodwill invite you to a complimentary table of four for food at the hotel so that we can look to restore your faith in Village Blackpool.

A whitewash job! Personally I think it's better if both players are held jointly responsible for arranging ties as it reduces the risk of the the game not being played.

However , as you rightly say, it would make no difference in this instance as your opponent was on holiday.

Imo he should have done the right thing and awarded the tie to you.

Anyone ever been fitted at Scott gourlay?

Won a competition for £1000 worth of irons so decided to get fitted with Scott first, will they be okay if I tell them I’m not ordering through him though?

And will he give me a print out/email of all the specs etc

I've been before. I'd imagine there would be no problems but they would certainly take the fitting fee.

That's how these kinds of places catch you out really. Some refund the fee if you buy through them but specialised places like SGGT take the fee regardless. I know someone who went and they were told by one of the fitters to go work on their technique and go back to them later in the year but they still charged them for the fitting and would have charged them for the fitting later in the year.

Just a big con if you ask me.

Played Glasgow Gailes yesterday. Played well. I was doing a general play and it’s come up with a negative pcc. Only the second time I’ve seen this. The first was because of a temp tee shortening a par three ( I think) but not sure why this time. Not even sure how these things are calculated. It’s a secret I think.

Cheers Jimmy. Its highly unusual for a general play score to be affected. It’s obviously because 8 or more people were doing general scores and played well enough to affect it. Conditions were decent if not perfect with receptive greens in the damp.

My course is really wet but the greens are glorious still. I tend to play better in the wet I've found... not the rain like. I shot 75 yesterday which is my best score to date.

Good stuff Jimmy. It’s a great game for all ages and abilities. The trick is to keep it going over the winter (which I rarely do). Even if the courses are unplayable find a range somewhere even if it’s just once a week. If you’re breaking 80 more times than not you’ll be single figures never mind 10. There is no substitute for hard work. Especially the short game.
Im into my 60’s ,played for 40 years and have just had my most successful season.

The PCC is, I believe, calculated by means of a mysterious algorithm within Scottish Golf's version of the WHS.

Other than that, then I've still to find someone who is fully aware of the computation. From my own experience, it very rarely fully allows for inclement weather conditions such as a gale force wind!

I’m moving to West Lothian shortly and think about it for joining. Like the idea of the country club facilities but I’ve heard the course struggles through the winter.

Best condition last year in West Lothian hands down was Harburn. It’s not a great winter course to be fair but from early last year to fairly late this year it’s been excellent.
Deer Park is fine but a bit if a slog in the winter as you’ve heard. It does have other facilities tho.

Really good couple of winter tees but greens were slow but still holding up well.

Playing Deer Park on Wednesday as it’s an option for joining next year.

Looking for a course I can play over next two or three months where I don't have to use a stupid mat and winter greens aren't a thing.

Any ideas? Someone told me I could join Ed Leisure as they dont use mats or temp greens etc but would need someone to confirm.
