    Electric cars

When you buy an electric car, and you have no place to park near your house, how do you charge it? Do you have a run a cable or similar out to the car, or would you have to get an electrician to construct some sort of power source against the wall at the perimeter of the house?

(Apologies for my lack of knowledge of electrics OR cars in the question)

In Edinburgh I've only seen professionally installed "home-fast" chargers on properties that have driveways.
You can charge from a standard 3-pin 230vac domestic socket but it takes longer to charge.
I've seen a lot of this in London where less properties have driveways, you end up with cables trailing over the pavement, some with (but most without) cable ramps to stop folk tripping.
I know one guy in Musselburgh that doesn't have a driveway, he fast charges at the local supermarket once a week when he does the "big shop", he reckons that's so he needs one a weekly basis.

I watched this recently and was quite surprised by some of the requirements for installing a charge point at your home.
To some extent it could influence if you really want to get one just yet.
